Charlton Heston ( may he rot in Hell) was the figurehead of the US gun lobby and is infamous for his pro gun speech saying "From my cold dead hands" as the only way that his gun cold be taken from him.

Today a follower of his policy killed at least 26 people including 18 children under 10 at a school in Connecticut.

BBC Report

How long are the gun nuts in the USA going to continue in this insane policy, and how many more innocent young people going to have cold dead hands, thanks to idiots in the USA who keep on demanding the second amendment needs upholding with the right to bear arms?

Walmart sells guns to all comers, are they going to want to sell guns in ASDA next?

Americans will never learn. They love guns more than innocent children.

On UK channel 4 news, the UK presenter said to his US correspondent, ' this must change the gun attitude in the US'. The response from his US counterpart, 'Don't bet on it'...

I think Norway has some pretty strong gun laws. Didn't stop Breviek.

No matter what laws you have...criminals and lunatics will always find a way to kill people...remember the oil and fertilizer bomb used by McVey?

And if I'm not mistaken, didn't Breviek, use one as a preliminary to his rampage?

With you all the way Rick. I too hope Charlton Heston is reviled like Jimmy Savile. The problem now is that it is so hard to revoke the laws on gun ownership.. Because those who want them are now armed to the teeth. Just hearing on UK TV, that people are saying teachers should be armed... WTF?

C'mon Obama, do the right thing.

I grew up with guns. All of us kids had BB guns and later,.22s when we were boys. we were taught how to use them and how to respect them and there were no problems. These crazy school, mall, movie theater shooting sprees were not in vogue like they are now. So, it is very hard for me to blame guns for all this violence. There's got to be something else. Could it be the violent video games and movies that generations of kids have grown up with? Or the music that they listen to that promotes lawlessnes and violence? Is it a lack of parenting? Your guess is as good as mine.

And the "loving guns more than children" comments...for the record, I don't love guns. If someone could wave a magic wand and make all guns vanish from the planet, I wouldn't shed a tear, despite the fact that it would inconvenience me as I use guns to kill varmints around the farm and to dispatch animals for butcher and even once to put down my favorite dog who attacked my infant daughter. However, if guns were simply outlawed, only the law abiding citizens would abide and we would be even more at risk from the criminals and gang bangers.

All of us are collectively mourning this tragedy now, but to use it to further your own politcal agenda is a bit off-putting to me.

That might be so Gamla, but the shear ease in which one can obtain a gun is certainly one that has finally got to be seriously questioned & much stricter measures have to be installed in at least an attempt to reduce this kind of senseless carnage.
Education is also another factor that has got to be on the agenda.

An example of the gun ho nature rife in the USA, was when I was visiting a friend in Pittsburgh 10 years ago when I was asked passing a recruitment drive for the marines did I want to join?
When I pointed out that I was not from the USA & just visiting, I was a matter of factly told there were means & ways we could assist with you getting round that quickly & "armed" !

If one is serious about the notion that all power comes from the people, then the people should be armed. In the end political power rests on violence. If the people can produce no violence the power will slip from their hands into the hands of these busibodies that slink and sneak around the beurocracy and the instituions, whispering, making deals, greasing hands, pandering and postering, lying and pretending. If the people is not armed the powermongers will be the only ones to employ men of violence. A socialists wet dream and the nightmare of a democrat.

Incidents like these are regrettable. But if a citizen is entrusted with wielding political power through the ballot. Then he should be entrusted with wielding the final safeguard against tyranny. Which is a gun in the hands of each and every citizen. You have to weight these tragic deaths against the millions that die when the people is defenceless and men like Lenin, Stalin, Pol Pot, Hitler and their like can rule unimpeded.

I too was brought up around guns - shotguns for shooting rabbits, crows & rats around the farm. We had regular visits from the local Bobby who would check that my licence was up to date and that the gun was kept in a locked cabinet. This massacre of young kids was carried out by hand guns like just about anybody can buy in Wamart. The vast majority of Farmers keep a rifle for vermin. What is not required is carrying a handgun for any purpose. A hand gun is no use against vermin, and neither is a semi-automatic they are only used for killing people. Ban these weapons and maybe we can have less sensless death of children

Dead children killed daily at schools, malls and cinemas etc is the price of having guns easily available and little control over them. Good luck with your guns just so glad I no longer live there.
