The Local _ Studying _ Applications - Autumn 2018

Posted by: KingZi 9.Dec.2017, 11:11 AM

Hello Everyone,

First I wish to say Good luck to all the are submitting for this period and wish you all the best.

I have created this section so that people might have a place to share their questions and thoughts.

I'll start the questions of with:

I am a fee-based application and applied to 4 choices.

I have been Qualified for my third choice. What does Qualified mean exactly as the definition on the website is vague?

Appreciate the support.

Kind regards,

Zi

IS there any bachelor pursuing student in final year and applied for masters in biomedical engineering in chalmers and linkoping? What is the acceptance rate for that?

Posted by: Kondwani 12.Dec.2017, 04:13 PM

Out of curiosity, they start indicating qualified after the application period is closed. And am sure they will close on the 15 January. Are you sure you have applied for Autumn 2018?

Posted by: CatMom 23.Dec.2017, 03:05 AM

Hi,

I have submitted my application for Bachelor’s in Development Studies at Lund. I have US college credits that I am also submitting. I think that those should be to them fast but my High School has never been speedy with these things so I hope that they make it on time.

Also KingZi, I have a niece named Zi!

Has anyone got any status updated in application section? smile.gif

No updates for me. I thinks that my transcripts have not arrived yet and if they have that they have just not made it into the system. I am from the US so all of mine have to go via post. I have a feeling though that most everything will not be updated until sometime after the 1st of February as that is the deadlines for application payments and documents.

Hey, maybe we will end up in the same place! I am in Colorado, I lived in Arizona for a while, too hot and too much sun for me. Where are you from?

They received one of the two transcripts that I had to submit. I am a little concerned that the second may not arrive in time (even though it should).

Does anyone know when they post merit ratings? I know that you can not always tell anything from them, but given the accepted ratings from previous years will at least give an idea.

Hi everyone

I've applied for Language Technology at Uppsala & Gothenburg and Computer Science at KTH & Chalmers. Fingers crossed.

BTW Does anybody know if there is a message telling you that all the documents required have been uploaded?
I've sent the application, paid the application fee and uploaded all the documents, but there is still a label "Completing your admissions application" on the top of universityadmission.se.

Perhaps they are still in holiday and haven't reviewed my documents?

I have two sets of transcripts and I am still waiting on the second to get there. I know it will be probably another week before it gets there but I check three times a day, every day. It is killing me. Plus I am not good with things being up in the air. I hate that I can’t put things in order because I don’t know where I will be next year.

Yes, another 2 in UK & Finland, but mainly in Sweden. I think the application process in Sweden is quite clear & reasonable, though it's a little bit slow. Like I was considering Germany once but I couldn't make it because their diploma verification process would take about 6 months.

Germany, though Sweden is my top choice. I am a non traditional student and quite a few years older than the average student. That means there are a lot of random things I need to consider, and therefore fewer options.

Hey guys:)

Anyone else applied for the sport in society masters in malmö?

Posted by: Ashish 14.Jan.2018, 08:38 AM

Hello,
I have applied in Germany, Czech Republic, Austria for Masters in Biomedical Engineering and Electronics.

Posted by: Ashish 14.Jan.2018, 08:41 AM

In Sweden I have applied in Lund, Linkoping and Chalmers.

Posted by: Jakob 14.Jan.2018, 04:48 PM

Hi all of you! biggrin.gif

I am applying for Peace and Conflict Studies and I really want to get in there. But I have a merit ranking of 18,08 and I already checked here http://statistik.uhr.se/ how the acceptance rates were in the last years. In some years I would get in, in some don’t. This scares me so I want to know if it is possible to get some additional points if you already have some of experience in that field and if you have volunteered in the field. Can you get extra points for that?
I hope somebody can help me out with an answer, that would be great!

Have a good one! rolleyes.gif

Posted by: fra25 14.Jan.2018, 05:27 PM

Jakob, 18,08 sounds like a pretty safe merit rating, you should be fine! Have you selected any other options? How come you've already got your merit rating, since the deadline isn't even until tomorrow?

Posted by: Ashish 14.Jan.2018, 06:02 PM

Same question as of fra25 that how you got your merit ranking?

Posted by: chenshifei 15.Jan.2018, 03:19 AM

It is the last day and there is still no merit rating, at least for me.

BTW I am a little bit curious about the actually score. For my program it's something like 979 out of 999. What's the difference between these two representations?

Posted by: KingZi 15.Jan.2018, 01:44 PM

Well people, I got two "Qualified" results (choices 1 & 3).

Doesn't mean I was offered a place or anything. But today marks the end (Jan 15th).

So good luck to all of you!

MASTERHT18 has the statistics for master's programs, and HT2018 has the statistics for bachelor's programs as well as some special Swedish Master's programs, like civilingenjör (Master of Science in Engineering) programs that are only for Swedish applicants (or rather people who speak Swedish). For international students applying to master's programs you should be looking at MASTERHT18.

These are the selection groups. Each selection group has a certain number of spots for each program, and there is various criteria depending on the school and program as to which group you will be placed in. For example, my number one choice (Master of Science in Computer Science at KTH) has two groups: BEFR and AVG. BEFR is the group for non-fee-paying students, and AVG is the group for fee-paying students.

It is under "Välj termin", you just need to scroll down a bit.

Posted by: bat 16.Jan.2018, 06:06 PM

I'd like to share details of my application for anyone who is curious in the coming years and is checking this forum. I will update this post with details of which program I got into in April when the decisions come out.

Program Selections:

  1. KTH Royal Institute of Technology, Master of Science in Computer Science
  2. KTH Royal Institute of Technology, Master of Science in Software Engineering of Distributed Systems
  3. Chalmers University of Technology, Master of Science in Computer Science - Algorithms, Languages, Logic
  4. Uppsala University, Master of Science in Computer Science

About me: I am an applicant in my early to mid 20s with dual US and European citizenship. I have a four year bachelor's degree in Computer Science from a somewhat decent US public university (ranked anywhere from 50th to 120th in the world, depending on which ranking you look at) with a 3.3/4.0 GPA. I am currently employed as a software engineer in the US.

I have 3 letters of recommendation for KTH (1 professor, 2 employers) and 2 for Chalmers (1 professor, 1 employer). I updated my CV to be more "European Style" with some details of personal information and also longer length than a typical US resume (2 pages instead of 1 page). My letters of motivation are each 1 page long.

If anyone has any questions feel free to PM me or post here.

I applied for my bachelor, but I have not received my merit rating for the 3 courses that I applied to. I submitted my university transcript however they wanted a hard copy, so I decided not send my hard copy because a university transcript was not necessary for bachelor studies. Do you think this is why its taking so long to receive my merit score?

Posted by: fra25 16.Jan.2018, 07:30 PM

Thank you Ashish! I wouldn't have thought to scroll that far down haha

My options are the following:
1) Environmnetal Mangamenent and Policy at Lund University (570 applicants, 265 first option)
2) Disaster Risk Management and Climate Change Adaptation in Lund (513, 274)
3) Political Science at Gothenburg University (227, 70)
4) Environmental Social Science at Stockholm University (209, 55)

All are in progress so far. I'm not sure if I should be too worried. It definitely helps to see the progress of all the others on the thread, I'm so happy it exists! Did anyone else apply to any of these masters?

Which program is this and at what university? The number of 1st choice applications really doesn't matter all that much to be honest with you. For example, one of the programs I am applying to (MS in Computer Science at Uppsala University) had 808 applicants last year, with 308 of them choosing the program as their top choice. That said, every single person who applied on-time with a valid application got into the program. In Sweden, if you have a valid application (you meet all of the requirements and have all of your documents) you will never get rejected, but instead placed on a waitlist if you do not get accepted into the program.

If you tell me which program it is I can look into the admissions from last year and give you a better indication of your chances.

Digital Business at Jönköping University

Posted by: fra25 16.Jan.2018, 09:04 PM

StuntUya, last year 25 people were selected in the first admission round for Digital Bussiness in Jonkoping. The lowest merit rating accepted was 888 out of 999, it might help for orienation when you get yours. Its a pretty tough competition it seems, but you might make it with alternative merits.
(I don't understand the system that well so I might be wrong too, it's better to just wait and see the results on April 6 but I know that's way too hard haha)

This is a tough one to call. In 2017 though, there were 279 that applied and 84 of them had that program as their number 1 choice. In the first selection (Urval 1), in the AINT Urvalsgrupp, 10 people got in and 0 were on the reserves list (so everyone in this Urvalsgrupp got in) and in the BINT Urvalsgrupp, 15 people got in and 20 people were on the reserves list. Urval 2 has similar results.

In this case it appears that it comes down to whether you are in the AINT or BINT Urvalsgrupp. You will probably get in if you end up in the AINT Urvalsgrupp, but if you end up in BINT then you would need to have quite a strong application. I did some quick googling but I didn't find what these groups mean.

Does anyone know much about the Mathematics program at Lund university? Like how the stats are for getting in, and just in general the program?

Posted by: StuntUya 17.Jan.2018, 08:07 AM

I have always wondered, when they say that selection criteria will be based on the number of credits completed in the relevant courses, does this mean they only look at the amount of the courses you did, and not the grades? Coz most of the programs I have looked at, none of them specifically said something like "we want super intelligent people with high GPAs" which is the case in other countries I have applied to, so it got me thinking, could it be that some of these Swedish Universities do not care about grades?

Definitely they will take your grades into consideration. They just don't want be too harsh on paper.

This mostly happen when you haven't scanned the original document that was issued by the college.i.e If the document has another stamp and signature from Commissioner of Oaths, its not regarded as original document. So try to scan the document as issued by the College or University

It has always been there, just make sure you upload the scan of the original document issued by your school, not a scan of a copy or of another previous scan.

This was the case for a program I applied last year. I e-mailed them asking about it. Since I have 4 year bachelor and 1 year master studies, I have a lot of credits.

So at first, it seemed like they did not take my master credits into account (my merit was not so high) So i e-mailed them, they said they were going to change it. And they did, after that I got top ranking (999/999). I got into that program, obviously. My GPA is was very high.

So the answer is, when they say "number of credits you have", they mean exactly that. Or that was the case for my school.

Does anyone know when they upload documents sent via regular mail? Or show you if they received them? Or anything?
I sent my TOEFL a while ago and I feel anxious since they've already started reviewing applications.

Posted by: nutcoco 19.Jan.2018, 04:19 PM

Is application not processed until University admissions got a hard copy of toefl score report that directly sent by ets? I followed the instructions as stated on the website [notify ets via using the institution code (additional score reporting) and upload a scan of the original copy I got from ets] on Jan 16th. But I got this message;

Please note that the TOEFL result slip must be made available to University Admissions in Sweden by Educational Test Service (ETS) with 'Institution code: 3477'. Make a request to ETS so we can verify your test as soon as possible. As soon as your TOEFL result slip has been made available, please contact us by sending us an email on our website: https://www.universityadmissions.se/en/All-you-need-to-know1/admissionssupport/#humany-universityadmissions=/contact/1289. In the email you just let us know that your result slip is available.

And I'm confused as hell. I heard that as I make a request for additional score report using the code then the institution will immediately be able to verify my scores online. So I thought I'd be okay since I uploaded the original copy & there is no mention of a hard copy on the website. Am I wrong? I made an inquiry yesterday but still got no reply :/

I have two sets of transcripts that had to be sent via post. The first took about ten days to arrive, be scanned and show on my account. It was up on the 3rd. The second left the US on the 3rd and is still not showing. There is a note on the site that says that the closer to the deadline the longer the processing time (aprox 10 days) for documents received via post.

When were they sent?

well, it was sent few months ago. september or october. I even wrote to admissions support.
they told me in the email that they have it. BUT it is still not on the website. and it's been more than 3 months.
I'm just really confused with their work and I don't really know what to do here.

When they confirmed that they had it did they say that it would be posted to you application? From what I can find, it looks like they contact TOEFL to verify the score, if this is the case it may be internally listed but not show on you application file that you see. I am only guessing, if you are really concerned you may want to contact them again to make sure that everything has gone smoothly.

No, they didn't. But from the info on the website I thought like they should?
Anyway, I wrote them again. Thank you for your support smile.gif

Hey guys, I have applied to Jonkoping university through the local admissions (not through UA Sweden). This weeek I had an interview and was accepted the next day to a business masters program at Jonkoping, receiving only a week for consideration to accept. Jonkoping is not my first choice and I'd like to see if I can get in to other schools which I have applied to through the University Admissions system.

Does anyone know if it's possible to ask for an acceptance extension deadline? I am in a situation where I either have to accept or take chance to here from other schools in April. Has anyone been in a situation like this that can give me advice?

Posted by: Gjeebes 20.Jan.2018, 09:39 AM

If they are pushing it on you (not likely even legal), then accept the offer (to cover your bases) and then delay your start date until such a time as to ensure you have been able to hear back from your other options.

Don't sign anything. Just do what the Swedes do: delay, delay, delay. Tell them you need to "discuss", and then "discuss further"...they will have no choice but to understand.

When you say accept their offer, what obligations are they pushing for? In the end, an acceptance has criteria and obligations, find out what they are.

Hi,

I have submitted my application for Bachelor’s in Development Studies at Lund. I have US college credits that I am also submitting. I think that those should be to them fast but my High School has never been speedy with these things so I hope that they make it on time.

Also KingZi, I have a niece named Zi!

I am sorry just say that your niece is named Zi. My nickname is Zi, but I can tell you it means Life in greek or better to give life.

Good luck with your studies. Make sure you follow up with the offices at your university and some can even go the extra mile and give you trackers for the submissions so you can track the packages.

Take care and God Bless

Do you guys think there will be updates on the statistics webpage after February 1st? Like in case some of the applicants do not manage to go through with their documentation, will we see any reduction in their numbers? I just need a little extra hope haha

Thanks Gjeebes. What do you mean by delay the start day? the start of the program or paying for the program. And yes, i figured delay is the best way to go.

They are pushing to accept the seat, for which I will get an official acceptance letter and will have to make payment within 3 weeks to make a "final confirmation" to the offer. The issue here is I might be eliminated out of the other applications on the UA after I accept.

Hi everyone,

I see all these people talking about documents arriving in Sweden, etc.

Is it only me that didn`t need to submit hard copies/original documents? I understood that online documents were enough for an application, which I found very advanced and cool (and possible for a country like Sweden), but now that I my application is still "in progress" and lots of people are already qualified, I`m starting to worry.

By the way, I applied for both courses below:

International Master's Programme in Political Science 120 Credits, Stockholm University, Location: Stockholm
IN PROGRESS

Political Science: Global Politics, Master's Programme (Two-year) 120 Credits, Malmö University, Location: Malmö
IN PROGRESS

Thank you in advance for your inputs!

Hi everyone,

I see all these people talking about documents arriving in Sweden, etc...

Hi Kai

Don't worry about that. Most universities start reviewing applications only after 1st of February (deadline for documents). My applications are still "in progress" too.

Posted by: bogdannovosh 23.Jan.2018, 06:27 PM

To those who still do not clearly understand what the application process is:

https://www.lunduniversity.lu.se/international-admissions/bachelors-masters-studies/applying-for-studies/your-application-status?utm_campaign=All+applicants_MAHT18+prio+1+(after+15+January)&utm_medium=email&utm_source=BizWizard

As I understood, the status of application cannot be changed until February, 1, because admission officers are unable to get access and review our documents. Before the document deadline all we can recieve are messages concerning validity, etc.

Posted by: Kondwani 24.Jan.2018, 01:49 PM

They will start reviewing most of the applications after the 1st February. The assumption is that most applicants will have everything sorted after 1 Feb

Heyy Guys,

I've submitted my application for several bachelors programs. Is that usual that I've got the same merit rating for all my application ?

I've shortlisted International Business and politics in Stockholm, International Business in Lund, International Economics in Jonkoping (and some others...). So I got 20.52 for each of them.
I looked for the merit rating admissiosn of the formers years but the bachelor in Stockholm (my first choice) is new, so no data available. I hope I will get this one ! biggrin.gif

And you, for what have you applied?

It depends where you are from. I am from the US and therefore my school records all have to be mailed in.

Speaking of which, one set of my transcripts were mailed incorrectly, although they were resent they still have not arrived. I am terrified that they were not sent correctly so luckily my father who only lives two hours from that school is driving down to have them rush ship it.

Hi guys,

A couple of days ago I got conditionally qualified for my third choice master's program. However, I am placed in the APM selection group and not in the GMAT selection group. I've taken the test, uploaded scores, sent scores, etc. and now it seems as if I hadn't done so and I am ranked next to people who have never sat the test. Do you have a clue how to fix that? I've messaged both the university and UA.se but still nothing.
Do you think that getting conditionally admitted so early is a good sign? I have 150 / 270 APM merit rating. To me at least, it seems way too low. Can someone explain more, please?

Keeping fingers crossed for all of you, regards!

Hello there!

At this point, things can change every week. I believe the person that reviewed your application just saw your transcripts. Have you uploaded the emailed results from GMAT on to the documents area? If so, they will take a look at it, and have you picked out the schools during the GMAT exam?

Don't worry much about it, things can flip from conditionally, to qualified, to whatever.

Best of luck

Thanks for clarifying! Yes, I have added all schools on test day (December) and results have been sent long ago (middle of December). In addition, I have uploaded a .pdf document with my GMAT scores, as universities asked me by e-mail. All is done on time. However, I am losing sleep recently because all that.

Posted by: Kondwani 28.Jan.2018, 02:10 PM

How come some applicants have been informed the outcome of their application when the results will be published on the 6th April? Are the application system for these schools that are giving feedback not through University Admissions?

Posted by: Jakob 28.Jan.2018, 09:08 PM

@ fra25
I can see ma merit ranking on the website of my application. I think they show it to you as soon as they have reviewed your grades. At least that´s what I think.

Posted by: fra25 29.Jan.2018, 06:49 PM

Jakob, what are the requirements for tee Master? Just grades? Or grades and statement or description of the bachelor thesis or recommendation? If it is just based on grades it means that those should be faster in general.
I assume for those with documents the admission officers are waiting in case they are updated or anything.

Hello Everyone!

I wish to share the information that I have researched to get everyone's mind on the right track, if I may.

First, it is useless to stress ourselves out.

If you have a problem and can do something about it, then why worry. And if you have a problem and can't do anything about, then why worry.

I have read the previous admissions cycle where people stressed themselves out from the date that the submission of the application opened all up till March 24th (for masters). Day-by-day, I felt how this process affected people's lives in a negative way.

My friends, everyone on that post was obnoxiously checking the university admissions page and this post page. This creates a stress ladder where stress increases day by day. If you see someone getting qualified and you didn't yet, you get stressed. Why do this to our selves? Let us learn from their experience!

Let us all join in together to share information to positively affect our lives during this process and not stress each other out.

Sincerely,

Zi

Hi everyone,

one application of mine was updated today!

I am now "Qualified" for the Political Science: Global Politics, Master's Programme (Two-year) at Malmö University.

The following is also written below:
Academic credits - second cycle (HPAV)
Your merit rating in this selection group is: 180 of a maximum 285

Anyone knows what that means and whether 180 is good or bad?

Cheers,

Was it a late application? The second cycle means you applied to the second cycle. I believe there are two application numbers in the same program, are you EU or non-EU applying?

really? I thought it meant something like my second option (it is, indeed, my second option). It was not a late application, and if it were, they would have been really quick, right? wink.gif

I just realised what it meant after some google research:

Selection groups- master programmes and courses
Selection for master's programmes is usually based on a number of Higher Education Credits. We do not take grade point average or letters of reference or recommendation into consideration.

Merit ratings (MR)
HPAV Higher Education Credits, master’s level (second-cycle) 150-285
HPGR Higher Education Credits, bachelor’s level (first-cycle), only for courses
7.5-165

Hey buddy, it means you are not fee-paying. I believe the first round of submission is reserved for the fee-paying individuals because it takes time for the visa to be processed. No worries, it doesn't mean a thing and doesn't change a thing.

Nothing is perfect, I would send an email to university admissions to clear it up. If you are an EU citizen then its a matter of clearing it. You have enough time for that but do get on it right away.

Not discouraging you from applying or anything, but less than 1% of all the applicants receive SI scholarship. From what I know, two most essential skills you need to demonstrate is 3000+ hours of work experience and proof of leadership skills.

Also, education in Sweden is cheaper compared to countries in the Anglosphere, don't you think?

I'm sorry, my university didn't use a credit system, you simply got a mark for each course after an exams and all those marks were added up to give you an overall gpa, and each course was equivalent in weight so I'm not exactly familiar with credits and how they can be used to determine who gets a place and who doesn't.

No, The Admission's website categories people by completed credits. Then, the university picks the people based on overall qualifications which could include grades, work experience (CV), University degree, English proficiency, GMAT or GRE.

Hope that clears it up buddy smile.gif.

It more than likely will be relatively late (judging by previous years of the admissions thread), but it could also potentially be as early as today. Nobody really knows except the KTH admissions committee for your particular program of choice.

Which university is your #3 choice, if you don't mind me asking?

Hey Buddy, you were spot on!

It went back to qualified but no the Merit Rating is still the same as it was before.

Stockholm University - Master's Program in Marketing

Can it be any more stressful? I really don't want to find out!

Hi everyone!

I'm Anastasia and I applied for 4 programs in different universities.
It seems like I have every single document required, yet I just received "Unqualified" for my 4th choice. The reason is absolutely ridiculous - "You are missing the following specific requirements: English language requirements..". I have my TOEFL results uploaded and they correspond to all the requirements.

I have got previosuly a message from university admissions that the TOEFL result slip must be available for them and I need to send ETS a message with their institution number, which I did several times. I am not sure what I am supposed to do now, since I am a scholarship applicant and cannot have late applications whatsoever.

Has anyone stumbled across this type of situation or it's just me?

I would recommend getting in touch with University Admissions via e-mail or preferably via phone. If I recall correctly they are open 9-16 CET.

I've noticed that many programs seem to accept more fee-exempt students (EU) than fee-paying (non-EU) students. Does anyone know whether this is because more fee-exempt students are applying or is preference is given to fee-exempt students over fee-paying students?

Um, did you mention the names of the universities you wish to send your scores to in your ETS account? As far as I know you can choose up to four for free prior to the day of your TOEFL test and if it's after, you need to pay a small fee for every university you wish to send your scores to.

But yeah, for TOEFL, just uploading the score report isn't enough. The universities that accept TOEFL scores need the score reports directly from ETS (it's the same for GRE too, which is also conducted by ETS).

In Sweden, if you have a valid application (you meet all of the requirements and have all of your documents) you will never get rejected, but instead placed on a waitlist if you do not get accepted into the program.

@bat

I actually sent you a PM about this but I guess you didn't see it...
Might as well post my query here.

Is there any source for this? That if you're qualified, you'll either be placed on a waiting list or get admitted, but never rejected?

I've gone though the admissions statistics in UHR's website and many of the programs didn't have any candidates in the waiting list, despite having 400+ total applicants and 100+ first-hand ones. With about 40-50 intakes it's hard to believe the rest were just unqualified.

Hey Hey!

What he's trying to tell you is the instructions on how to share the grades are clearly stated on the website. You do not send to the university directly, all you had to do is send it to Sweden 3477 and that gets the grades to university admissions which in turn it shares it with the University.

What you can do now is share it with Sweden 3477 or/and directly with the university.

Cheers and Good luck! I hope it works out for your buddy!

Thank you for explanation! I had previously written to ETS centre to ask them to make my scores visible for universityadmissions, but they repsonded with "If you wanna order additional score reports..", which is not what I was asking them to do.

I did write to universityadmissions though, and they told me that they have requested verification from ETS, which gives me hope.

Fingers crossed my application is not going to be considered as "late" because of that.

John123

Mostly. You may find this type of information on the universities` websites.
If you were not asked to upload any other supporting documents, such as a statement of purpose, recommendations, etc., then it is likely that your credits will be a basis for your ranking.
However, I suppose, there are some criteria about which only admission officers know.

Hi Everyone!

I've applied for:

Finance- Lund University

Accounting and financial management- Uppsala

Banking and finance -Stockholm

Finance- Gothenburg

All are currently in progress.

From the past admission blogs, I saw that it takes a while for the status of EU students to change since we aren't paying fees.

So it's likely that those getting "qualified" are those required to pay tuition as their applications are mostly looked at first.

Best of luck ! looks like us eu applicants will just have to wait sad.gif How likely is it that you will be admitted if your qualified does anyone know or does it just depend on the popularity of the course itself?

Posted by: sasa 13.Feb.2018, 05:24 PM

I don't think that it makes a difference if you're eu or not. As I am an eu student and all my applications already changed to qualified. It just depends on the university and programme.

Posted by: wooba 13.Feb.2018, 06:13 PM

@Vee278 I'm from Asia and required to pay tuition fee and all 4 applications are in progress, so I do not think the region from which a student comes would be the reason. Since I noticed that I have applied for the similar universities with you, I presume it may depend on universities and departments. Stockholm, Gothenburg or Uppsala seems to receive rather more applications than other universities such as Linkoping and Umea. Similarly, there is likely to be more students applying for eco, business, technology than several other majors. Thus, those uni and faculties may need a bit more time to process the applications.
...Or they simply just do it in no certain order/priority to add a little more fun and "test" our patience

Total number of applicants = All the applicants who've selected this program, regardless of the rank they've assigned to it.

1st hand seeker = Applicants who've ranked this program as their #1 priority.

The number of male and female applicants (as well as other detailed statistics) are calculated only from the pool of Swedish applicants. The total number of male and female applicants adds up to the number mentioned in the 'Number with Swedish social security number' tab.

On top of that, there are those that are Swedish and those that are not. Gender is sometimes incorrect as sometimes people have not specified. The most important numbers are the numbers for total submissions, total 1st seekers, and how many were admitted.

The rest is just some mumbo-jumbo.

TO EVERYONE:

Do not over analyze, we are still in February. Longs way away from getting a firm decision, whether it be EU / Non-EU or even Swedish. The only reason Non-EU people get processed before is that they require a longer process for the Student VISA.

I believe the Swedish Admission system is created without prejudice. Paying or not paying, it makes no difference to them. Just what I believe and what I read.

Zi

I was thinking about that as well and commuting to the University. Well, what I recommend is to start close by to take a feel for the area around the uni and the country. I would then move to outside the area after I am comfortable.

I don't believe it's about priority. The second round is reserved for late submits, or EU citizens. As you can see its written on the admissions website in the FAQ section. It is not recommended for people that require student visas to apply for the second round.

Hope that clears it up!

In addition, a majority of students would turn down the offer after first selection due to various reasons. Among the reasons include; not successful with scholarship application, they have offers with other schools etc. Then the second selection is run to give opportunity to those who made late applications and mostly those that will not require visa.

yes, that's true. If you are in the reserved list for the 1st selection it is highly unlikely you will receive a seat in second selection unless you are an Eu citizen or have a reserve list within 5 or something.

My application to the University of Gothenburg has been deleted on University Admissions. It says I did not upload my documentation, but I did and it appears under documents for me. Did I do something wrong on a Mac to upload the PDFs? I emailed the university directly and University Admissions. Has anyone else encountered this problem?

If you're using Google Translate, that can sometimes cause issues. I recommend using the unique program code to search for a specific program's stats.

Also give the other statistics site a try: https://www.studera.nu/jamfor-utbildning/

But even then there's a chance some programs mayn't be listed.

For instance, I'm not able to find the stats for Lund's Embedded Electronics program anywhere.

In Swedish the program is called "System på chips - Masterutbildning" https://www.lu.se/lubas/i-uoh-lu-TAEEE

Try typing LU-18920 or System på chips under 'fritext', choose MasterHT18, Lund University, bara program at the https://statistik.uhr.se/ website.

Total applied: 449
First choice selection: 120

On the Admissions website, under the more information tab for your course or program, you can find the code, like LU-18920, for each. You can use that to search for programs that you can't find by name. Some are listed by their Swedish name instead of English.

Hope that helps and good luck!

Thank you for your concern!

No, the issue has not been solved yet. Universityadmissions told me that they will contact me when my TOEFL verification is complete. Not sure how much time it will take. I'm afraid for all four of my applications to go unqualified.

Woah! The Swedish name for most of the Embedded Systems programs is 'inbaddad'. No way I could have guessed that Lund was using a different name altogether.

Yup, that helps. Thanks, and good luck to you too!

Hi there!

Well, you have a good chance with your first choice that's what anyone would tell you.

In regards to the other three choices, it depends on how many people applied.

See first they process 1st choice submitters and then they go through the late applications. They create a reserve list and if you meet the requirements, you will put on the reserve list with a number. That number means which place you are on the list.

Usually, there are people that rejected, scholarship doesn't get approved, or they just plain don't confirm their place. That is when they start going through the reserve list.

Hope that clears it up.

Cheers!

Hello

Don’t make any assumptions right now. A lot of people in the past thought like you and ended up getting accepted.

I’m not saying to be positive and wish for the best. Just be neutral and let the process continue.

Good luck and thank you for your wishes.

A quick Google search will tell you that it's a beautiful town
I have talked to some people there and it seems like it's your typical European small town, efficient transport systems, die-hard fanatics for the local sports teams, lots of green areas and lakes...basically a chill place, and if you're a student, plenty of parties to keep you lit up.

haha my pleasure. The thing is for example, in a particular program they offered 50 students but out of this 50, a lot of them will decline the offer for several reasons, for example not getting the SI or other scholarships, select/switch to other choices nd so on. So the UAS needs to call people from the reserve list right? thats why they keep the time span from 24th March to 6th april to call up students placed on reserve. Hope it makes clear to u smile.gif

First announcement of results will be made on 6th April for Masters. They will give a period of up to when scholarship results are announced either to accept or decline your offer of place. Am sure they have indicated that 6th April will be announcement of results. It was last year when they announced on 24th March and applicants were given up to 12th April to respond because SI had announced their results by 8th

Hey there! I've only applied at GU as a Political Science master per se. Aside from that, Environmental Managements and Policy in Lund, Disaster Risk Management and Climate Change Adaptation in Lund; and Environmental Social Science in Stockholm. All in progress sad.gif
I think these types of masters take longer for updates because they all tend to require lengthy essays + there's a lot of students applying. I hope your updates so far are optimistic!

hello all, my first post here,

i've applied to 4 different schools for my masters but two of them unqualified me,

Industrial Engineering and Management, Linköping University, UNQUALIFIED

Innovation through Business, Engineering and Design - specialisation engineering, Linnaeus University UNQUALIFIED

Information Architecture and Innovation Jönköping University IN PROGRESS

Industrial Management and Innovation 120 Credits, Halmstad University QUALIFIED

I get the Linnaeus reject, but Linköping unqualified me because of the "lack" of my degree of relevant studies, which is funny because i literally studied the same programe (management engineering), hoping it will clear up when i get my diploma in a week and send it to them.

my question is about my qualified programme, halmstad university. it says in the system that,

Studieavgiftsskyldiga (AVG)
Your merit rating in this selection group is: 742 of a maximum 999

Is this a good grade? I am really anxious about all this and don't know how will i wait... thanks in advance!

For application to most of their engineering programs, Linkoping University also asks for a minimum of 30 ECTS credits in Mathematics subjects. If you fulfill that requirement I'd suggest mailing Linkoping University directly; many applicants in the past had had their status changed from unqualified to qualified by directly getting in touch with the university and getting similar issues resolved.

As for the Halmstad program, I had a quick look at last year's admission statistics and seems like all the qualified applicants were offered a seat (regardless of the merit rating)

I did for KU (Copenhagen University) but still haven’t got my status changed, and probably will not qualify as my IELTS results are 3 years old, as I’m not really willing to write another IELTS just for Denmark, let’s see what they say! They’ve asked for my CV, where they’ll see that I have worked in English for the past 9 years, so I’m kinda hoping they’d be flexible that.

i think they could work with that. I too have a Work ex of 5 years and some universities that I inquired are considering it as part of English Language qualification.

Interesting, which universities are those?

I really hope so in my case, and apart from my work experience, I scored an overall 8 on my 3-year-old IELTS that I submitted (highest possible mark is 9), so it should be self-evident that I’m fluent in English, but let’s see how flexible they are.

One of such university is university of Twente at Netherlands for Masters in CS program. I was rejected due to insufficient credits though sad.gif.

Yeah 8 in IELTS is a pretty good score. I just barely made it to 7 myself:P.

Hello!

After having an interview last week, I just got an update from Chalmers that I'm on the waiting list for its Master in Entrepreneurship programme, which is my 1st priority. The email mentioned that I'm number one on the waiting list (I wonder if everyone on the waiting list gets the same "number one" on their emails). Anyway, the final decision will be informed by Friday, 2 March 2018. Let's see how it will go!

In the meantime, I got QUALIFIED with the rating of 180 out of max 225 for my 3rd priority, Uni of Gothenburg for Master in Knowledge-based Entrepreneurship programme. I'm under AP category, which means I won't submit any GMAT or GRE result. So, I have no idea of my chance with this rating in this category.

Just want to share with my fellow fighters here! smile.gif wink.gif

Unfortunately there is no way to do this. If you get admitted to one program all other programs are automatically void.

Hi, no it doesn't work like that.
As far as I know, all of your choices consider your application, then they mark you as admitted, reserved or rejected. If your 1st choice mark you as admitted your 2nd, 3rd and 4th choices will be deleted. If your 1st choice mark you as rejeceted and 2nd choice mark you as admitted then 3rd and 4th choices will be deleted.

So it doesnt' matter if you're already admitted to one program, the others will still consider your application. You will get into the highest ranked one which admits you and the others will be deleted.

Hey FieFiea, That's a bit skeptical to explain but here goes : you are now in the waiting list of Chalmers and let's say you got an admit to Gothenburg which is ur 2nd choice then ur below choices will be voided. And then if you get selected at Chalmers afterwards your admit to Gothenburg will not be voided unless you accept the offer in chalmers. So basically now u have 2 choices.
And yes if ur waiting list number is 1 u have got a gr8 chance there ...All the best smile.gif

It's exactly as Billie said. Just that if you have a reserved status for ur initial choices the later applications will be considered rather than getting deleted.

Hey Kenzo, As far as I Know While assessing, universities divide the applications in different groups on the basis of regions (EU/Sweden/Non-EU) and each application is given a score with in it's group. I don't think the rating will change but higher the score the better chance you have.

Posted by: John123 27.Feb.2018, 09:25 PM

Thanks! I'm just worried because it seems I've 180 points equivalent to the ECTS points of my bachelor. I'm not sure if they also take my final grade into consideration.

Hi! Cool... I'm not the only one having that damn 180/285. laugh.gif

I'm not good at math, but it seems like a lousy score to me... here http://statistik.uhr.se/ it says totalt antal sökande 493... 493! 493! 493! The "admission places" of my course are 30... 30! 30! 30!

Honestly, I don't understand the reason why they gave me that lousy 180. Why 180? I already have a master's degree obtained in Italy with the highest score; I have an IELTS academic certificate, achieved with a score of 6.5 (overall)... yeah not so much, my English is not very good but 6,5 is more than what is requested. What could I do more?

I have to make some very important life decisions next weeks and this merit rating doesn't give me hope. sad.gif

Posted by: dks 27.Feb.2018, 11:37 PM

180 are your automatically credited points based on your bachelors degree. If you happen to have a 4 year degree(240) or already a masters, the rest of the credits are added manually afterwards. That's what i remember reading in the 2017 topic.

Are we given the chance to accept the offer first before the below choices are voided? Or our response is unnecessary?

My CGPA is 3.68/4, though as I'm an architecture student, they will probably consider the portfolio as the main criteria for admission which I'm not very confident of. But obviously one can never know, as there is no grading for portfolios.

My university is ranked 421-430 in QS. And its #1 in my home country(yaaay!).

As you can clearly see from my application, KTH is not much of an option for me, mainly because Stockholm is too expensive for me, I didn't want to give a priority to KTH.

SO NOW, MY QUESTION IS:

Chalmers TU - Architecture and Planing Beyond Sustainability looks still open for late application. Does that mean they haven't received enough applications or do you think that they didn't like the applications they have received so they seek more?

Thanks in advance for your response and good luck to all!

Hi Biswajit, thanks for your feedback.

Are we given the chance to accept the offer first before the below choices are voided? Or our response is unnecessary?

Thanks in advance!

Cheers,

If your 1st choice were in reserve and u get an admit for ur 2nd choice and afterwards if u get an admit for ur 1st choice then yes.

Hi I've already made this entry but it looks like it got deleted somehow. So again;

Hi there you all!
I'm a fee paying non EU student.

I've applied to the following MSc programs;

1. Chalmers TU - Architecture and Planing Beyond Sustainability (IN PROGRESS)
2. Chalmers TU - Architecture and Urban Design (IN PROGRESS)
3. KTH - Sustainable Urban Planing and Design (IN PROGRESS)
4. KTH - Architecture (IN PROGRESS)

My CGPA is 3.68/4, though as I'm an architecture student, they will probably consider the portfolio as the main criteria for admission which I'm not very confident of. But obviously one can never know, as there is no grading for portfolios.

As you can clearly see from my application, KTH is not much of an option for me, mainly because Stockholm is too expensive for me, I didn't want to give a priority to KTH.

NOW, MY QUESTIONS:

1. Does anyone know how to learn how many applications one specific program has received in 2018?

2. Chalmers TU - Architecture and Planing Beyond Sustainability looks still open for late application. Does that mean they haven't received enough applications or do you think that they didn't like the applications they have received so they seek more?

Thanks in advance for your response and good luck to all!

1. You can check this site "http://statistik.uhr.se/" for any application related statistics.

2. I can't say for sure why they are still open but its definitely not about liking or disliking any applications. but you can rest assured this will not affect ur application. smile.gif

May I ask you a question about that site? If on the field "Fritext" I put in my course code, it says "totalt antal sökande 490", but if I click "Antal kvinnor / män" instead of "Totala antalet sökande" the numbers are different, much lower than 490: "Kvinnor totalt 7 Män totalt 11 Kvinnor 1: a hand 5 Män 1: a hand 3 ". 11 + 7 = 18... which is the same number that comes for the students "Med SvPnr totalt" in the tab "Antal med svenskt personnummer". Med SvPnr + Utan SvPnr = 490. Bang!

The "admission places" of my course are 30, could you confirm we are 490 students fighting for a small 30 places spot? I would like to understand the thing.

Thanks, M.

I'm quoting myself, ha! biggrin.gif

I have a question, if let say, I get a spot in Chalmers, would it still be possible for me to drop that offer and go with Gothenburg instead?

Appreciate your comments! Thanks.

I think someone already answered this pretty well, but if you know you are no longer interested in, your some of your original higher-ranked programs (maybe you want to go to #3 and no longer care about #1 and #2), I think you have the option to delete them *before* the decision is made. And obviously before the selection process nears its final stages since the applications get locked.

Maybe that's all obvious but I figured better to mention than not.

I have some documents to send in but will my whole application change to late? I was thinking of just sending it to the university im applying to but i imagine this is not allowed?

I am a little confused about the 1st paragraph u wrote as I always translate the pages tongue.gif.

About the admission places, it changes every year based on the no of applications.
