http://www.lonestatistik.se/ This is a useful website that gives salary averages for many sectors in different locations in Sweden. It is reasonably accurate at least in regards to my area and sector. At the very least it is a decent starting point.

I have purchased from this seller too (Padauk veneer). Fast service to Sweden from the UK.

What kind of carpentry are you doing? Bauhaus and K-Rauta are the closest thing you will find to Home Depot or Lowes in Sweden. They are definitely comparable except the doubling in price for the same tool (Must be the doubling in voltage...). I bought most of my shop tools Planer/Jointer, Bandsaw, Mitre saw, Biscuit jointer, from Denmark (www.prishammeren.dk) and my lathe from Plektra trading company in Finland (www.plektratrading.com).

Wood is definitely a harder issue in Sweden, since fulafuru is king here. The website mentioned above by another member seems promising but like many companies in Sweden they might only sell to ABs and not private citizens. I have had some luck with local mills in my area. Nothing particularly exciting just oak and alder, but that is better than pine or fir. Plus, having it planed and jointed seems to irritate the local mills for some reason. (Could be a Sm?land issue...) Having my own planer and jointer has alleviated this issue for me.

Good luck!

As things going forward, especially if she is travelling to the States, draw up a letter, saying that you give her permission to leave and come back for her travelling. Then have it notarized. Which will prevent you from yanking the rug out under her travel plans (not that it sounds like you are the unreasonable one). It will help keep things honest. If you do it for her, when you ask her to do it for your travel plans, she might do the same thing, which will allow you to relax at border check points and not worry about her messing with you.

In the States, single parents with a kid in tow (especially when the last names don't match), are technically supposed to be asked by airline personnel at check in internationally for a notarized permission slip from the other parent. They rarely do it, but that is the rule. So, you will be doing this for "her benefit." It might benefit you on the flip side.

Just a thought. Good luck!

http://www.lonestatistik.se/yrken-a-till-o.asp

This is a decent resource for salary comparison in Sweden. The site breaks down jobs by region.

http://www.hemnet.se/

At hemnet you can get a decent idea of how much houses and apartments cost to rent or to buy all over Sweden.

The suburbs of Jönköping are more expensive than my location, but if you want to commute a little bit, purchasing or renting will be shockingly cheaper about 20-40 km out from the city.

I live about 80 km from Jönkoping. My lifestyle while not lavish (Lavish is not a common descriptor for Swedish lifestyle in general, although is dependent on one's definition of lavish), is more than just comfortable and I make significantly less than your offer.

Good luck to you.

I have to agree with intrepidfox on this one. Job coaching has some value but is basically about the recruiting companies making money for doing very little, at least in regards to actually getting employment. I was with Montico and their CV tips were about the only thing I found worthwhile. I finally found work in Sweden though, by doing key word Google searches specific to my region, finding likely prospective companies, and just knocking on doors. Putting a face to your CV, is really important in general. Unless you have professional references that are in fact Swedish, just applying for a job as an unknown foreigner will probably be a wasted and frustrated effort. Be willing to strike out hundreds of times or more, trying to get that first job here. Good luck in your search.

Poll numbers mean nothing when it comes to SD, they have always been ridiculously underestimated in the polls. Don't worry. I will look forward to your lamentations about racism and bigotry in 2014, when Jimmie becomes the Swedish Geert Wilders.

Never fear SD will take over for the ousted parties next time around. Their 15 percent will be a welcome addition to the Alliance.

Yeap, a few misguided souls equallying 15 percent next time around. No amount of denial will change the fact that native Swedes want their government to fix the refugee/integration problem.

It is about time someone realized that female aristocrats are as worthless as their male counterparts.

No Gardian you are wrong. The threat of violence over disrespect is disproportionate. Muslims need to learn restraint. You can be offended without becoming violent. That is the end of the story.

Target both the employers and the undocumented workers. There is no reason for this to be an either or scenario.

Yeap, all the money going to living expenses for refugees has to come from somewhere. Policy makers are clueless to the idea that Sweden has limited funds.

Sad indeed, but no where in the world is a 19 year old a boy. Oh wait, this is how Sweden likes it. 15 is adult enough to have consensual sex with a 40 year old, but a 19 year old criminal is a boy.

Yeap, shoot rockets into southern Israel trying to kill civilians. Not news. Israel strikes back and collateral damage occurs. Waaaa! The world cares. Don't attack Israel and this won't happen.

That is an odd response. I wonder what skeletons would be found in Rehn's closet?

Iraniboy,
I have been around long enough on these forums to know your ilk, and you know mine. We have chosen our sides. Good luck on the losing end.

Sure thing Iraniboy. Why don't you go back to Iran, that way when Israel bombs your country off the planet, you will no longer be around to make stupid comments.

The tech issues were awful. Thank goodness the money Radiotjänsten collects for SVT is being put to good use. Quality programming, yessiree!
