Is there a bank that operates in Sweden and UK?

Handelsbanken tells me they don't do that

Hi,

I am moving to Sweden in Jan 2020. A friend of mine moved a couple of years ago and set up a Danske Bank account before he left that works in both the UK and Sweden. This means free transfers and stuff like that. He lived in Northern Ireland previously.

I thought Handelsbanken would do the same but I went into my local branch and they told me they are separate from their counterpart in Sweden and so there would be no benefit in opening an account. But after looking into it I am not sure he was telling me the truth.

Can someone with experience in this area please offer me some advice.

Thank you.

The Bank was correct....there would be no benefit. Besides, Handelsbanken only wants high net-worth individuals in the UK, the fact that you are moving to Sweden is of no interest to them. You need to wait until you move to Sweden and then open an account here. If you don't want to do that, consider using Transferwise ( google it).
