I may have been a bit harsh and I apologise for my short pier post but all posters should abide by the rules and longer term members should avoid stirring things up

"may have been a bit harsh ! More like totally obnoxious and since when has streja been anything like the nasty stirring trolls that post here ?

There were plenty of PM's questioning WTF is wrong with you Rick after that comment.

I'll miss you too JJ but understand why you're going
Am sick of the trolls myself and not only that but bullies telling sweet furry creatures to take long walks on short piers.
This place seems to turn people terminally nasty.

i'm a little disappointed in you rick. what is your point at having a rather ugly go at streja? what is it about streja being a teacher that people like to use that against her? is it better to be an engineer? teachers already get enough shit being teachers, do they need to be targeted for having opinions that people disagree with?

why do people bring up poster's significant others too? should i ask you if your wife is going through something in her life to provide some implausible explanation for your current behavior? i wouldn't because it's most offensive and unacceptable.

"anti-brit vitriol"? really? vitriol? you dilute the value of words when you take extreme terms and overuse them for insignificant values.

and goodness, you'd think people are on this thread advocating a return to an absolute monarchy with the level of "taking umbrage". chill people.

Glad you said this 007 . I haven't followed the whole thread but was gobsmacked by the attack on streja and couldn't find any "vitriol" or indeed even a rant by TL standards coming from her. did I miss something ??

I also wonder why the attacks on streja generally and especially for being a teacher and from Rick blink.gif
What's going on people ?

"Lazy cooks" is offensive ? Geez grow some skin !

Yes it matters "how" you are residing in Sweden. In other words the kind of visa you are granted to be able to live in Sweden.

To ever be eligible for citizenship one MUST have been granted a PERMANENT RESIDENCE PERMIT (PUT) at some stage. In other words the visa one is granted has an aboslute bearing on whether or not one is eligible for permanent status and then citizenship .

To illustrate, in my case, I'm married to a swedish citizen so I applied for, from my own country, and was granted a temporary residence permit with a right to work. paperwork took about 6 months to process.

we both then moved to Sweden i was able to get a person number (social security number in U.S. parlance) and after 2 years of continuous residence I had the right to apply for a PERMANENT residence permit which was granted. After a further year of continuous residence I was eligible to apply for citizenship. In other words under the family ties ruling I was eligible for citizenship after 3 years.

without ties to Sweden and without EU citizenship your parents will have more difficult path to Permanent Residence and citizenship I am guessing.

for example a student on a student visa can reside in Sweden for as long as the study course lasts - could be years - but none of that time counts towards right to permanent residence or citizenship. So it all depends on the type of visa one has or in your words, HOW one is residing in Sweden

How your parents acquire this is something i can't answer as there are many categories. There are people on this board who have homes in Sweden but don't have a permanent right of residence and cannot avail themselves of the social services as they don't have a person number (social security number)

It can be a minefield but maybe asking at the Swedish Embassy or Consul would also be a good strategy for getting information that is particular to your parents plans.

Then again someone on here maybe able to answer you with more first hand experience as a US citizen who has already been down that road.

Good Luck !

first of all I would suggest you read the requirements on the migration board's website to inform yourself before you get a variety of answers here. ( mine included) You can read it in english here http://www.migrationsverket.se/info/499_en.html

It states that after one has managed to get a Permanent Residency permit (PUT) It's usually 5 years of continuous residence from that date before being eligible to apply for citizenship.

Getting PUT is not always a walk in the park and can depend on many factors. Having your own business and paying taxes not necessarily being the guarantee you may think it is.

Very poor class of trolls we seem to get on here nowadays. We used to have trolls with intelligence who kept is amused for days on end.

Plowbridge was always my favourite troll.

I think my proclivities run to British trolls - it's the humour cool.gif

Come back Plowbridge !

I seem to have touched a nerve.

Common sense dictates that if your wife would not, as you claim ever think that you had been unfaithful then why wouldn't you tell her you are being stalked rather than her being at risk of mischief making by this other woman ?

Now THAT would upset her in her delicate state. NOT you being honest. Your honesty would protect her from being upset and deepen her trust in you is the way I see it.

assuming you have since been decisive in dealing with the stalker of course I mean you did say that you let this stalker "gently know I was married" huh.gif

send them in one of those green bags you get at Posten.or any Post butik

You get up to 2kgs for whatever the size bag you need costs - probably around 65 kr. - plus an extra 40kr to send it out of sweden .

In other words if its not over 2kg you'll get away with about 100kr cost
