Pop music fans and musicians in Sweden were reeling on Friday following news of the unexpected death of Michael Jackson, who died suddenly on Thursday in Los Angeles at the age of 50.

"What terrible news," Swedish hip hop artist Timbuktu told the Aftonbladet newspaper.

"He already sung like pro when he was a boy. For me, he was bigger than Elvis. He's shaped me as a person and motivated me to dance and devote myself to music."

News hit Sweden around midnight on Thursday that Jackson had reportedly been rushed to a Los Angeles hospital in a coma.

Now everyone can illegally download his songs so his children can't benefit from their fathers work.

Hi there,
We have covered the Swedish angle on the Iran protests. We wrote this article on Sweden summoning the Iranian ambassador:
http://www.thelocal.se/20228/20090623/
We wrote this article on Foreign Minister Carl Bildt's statement on the situation:
http://www.thelocal.se/20208/20090622/
We also did these photo galleries on Swedish protests about the Iranian situation:
http://www.thelocal.se/gallery/1134/
http://www.thelocal.se/gallery/1120/
As the situation develops, we'll undoubtedly cover more of the Swedish reaction to events in Iran. Rest assured that we are aware that this story has a Swedish element and we will keep on top of it.
All the best,
James Savage

Why you ask? Um maybe because Iran has been screwed up since before the Jackson 5ive signed with Motown records. I suspect Iran will be screwed up another 30 years from now. Where as Michael only dies once. Don't worry we have years upon years to cover that rubbish in Iran

the local heading,"Sweden Mourns Michael Jackson", seems a somewhat sweeping statement.

My own impression from ppls.views, statements and posts is that, to put it politely,...only... A Minority of Sweden mourns Michael Jackson.

The rest dont seem to give a monkeys uncle.

We live in a cynical society. We believe things that we hear, read and see, what else is there? When events are distorted by others, it is our responsibility to connect to what we feel. They can not twist what is in your heart. They can not distort the truth if you see with your heart.

""In 1985, Jackson paid $47.5million for ATV Music, which owned the rights to 251 Beatles songs written by John Lennon and Paul McCartney""

Cant imagine any artist with real natural talent finding it necessary to copy from those that did.

On the bright side,
There should be at least a few more kids sleeping more soundly in their beds tonight.

eh? can you say, "financial investment"? and fwiw while i have no idea what beatles influences might exist in MJ's work, all artists get inspiration from each other and even "copy"...van gogh/millet comes to mind.
