"...three fourths..." or three quarters, as we say here.

Pardon my Google Translate, but how about a Swedish comedian taking over (e.g)
@Förenta_staterna and tweeting in Swedish for America ?
Give 'em a taste of their own medicine.

He'd be well advised not to try the same thing in Thailand, he'd end up in jail for a long time.

"stealing a bottle of mouthwash from a shop " - well in the UK it would have been available WITHOUT a prescription ...

Bon appetit !

My original point was about Ikea's sin(s) against Swedish culture by denying me my spuds.

Hell, not that subject again - and I have hardly been on this forum since my exit from Skåne 12 months ago ...

Perhaps TheLocal's website people could add some Javascript to the comment posting page which detected the words "self raising" and popped up a box with the appropriate "mjöll".

QUOTE (entry @ 14.Apr.2012, 09:08 AM) *
I have known some limey in my days but neither they nor any of my UK friends here in Sweden with a bowl of Swedish Brown Sauce and a bottle of HP Sauce(which I love very much) on the table would ever ask for Swedish Brown Sauce when they meant HP Sauce.

Which all goes to show that context is everything.

If you said 'brown sauce' to an arbitrary adult in the UK they would assume you meant HP or possibly Daddies.

Which they would not if in Sweden, familiar with Swedish sauces and with several types of the latter on the table in front of them.

Ikea does supply the brown gravy/sauce with its chips ...

Don't say "brown sauce" to a British person, they will think of HP Sauce.

Surely: "defending ALLEGED criminals" - they only become criminals after the court has found them guilty.

When I used to work in Sweden I liked the slightly roasted small potatoes they sometimes served in the works canteen.

But just as Italians have their "appropriate" sauces for different pasta, I understand that certain foods in Sweden have their "natural" partners.

the sweet cupboard is a glass fronted cabinet we have that has a variety of sweets in it, from various supermarkets godis bins and shelves, but also from various countries we have visited. We don't eat them, but just put them up for display

If you were Damien Hirst, you could have sold the display to an Art Collector for a couple of million.

How many Stockholm galleries have you tried so far ?

Yes, mångk, but when there is a flight of steps and no [working] lift, help with a pram or a suitcase will be appreciated.

"after being fund guilty of selling large quantities of synthetic drugs imported from China and hidden inside garden gnomes. "
a) typo - *found* guiltty
b) wording could be improved - the current wording could almost suggest he was hidden inside garden gnomes !

The last time I saw the Aurora (=Roman goddess of dawn) in the UK, it was the "dawn" effect (ie a greenish glow on the horizon) which I presume gave the phenomenon its 'English' name.

After the Ozzy Osborne episode you'd have thought people would realise these things were not like a kid's scooter.

I make a point of standing up to allow the infirm or 'expecting' a seat, especially when there are teenagers also seated !
Sometimes the kids carry on texting, other times they catch my eye and look a bit sheepish ...

I have only been to Karlskrona once, last February, and it was closed except for the "Café 3G" which did very welcome coffee in the cold weather. You could ask them if they supply beans ...

In those days (sorry, feminists) they also required adult males to be able to row the lifeboats.
