007 , nice to hear from you and yes I sometimes wonder may be it was meant to be like that.

I haven't been active on theLocal or Facebook either. Just somehow did not feel like responding.

On the other hand off late I am reading discussion on thelocal.de for no specific reasons.
Somehow their user interface looks better than this one as well as the expats community over there seems to be growing pretty organically online is what I could gather. They seems to be pretty good bunch of folks trying to support each other.

Let's see how Team Gbg curry meet up go on 28Nov and sometime would like to attend Team 08ers meetup for sure but don't know when.

EB still manages the forum but doesn't bother with it much. there's nothing happening anyway, so his job is easy. when he posts, he posts under "the local"

the mods he recruited, all long timers, seemed to have given up since there was little to no consideration shown people taking their time to moderate. bob has employed the services of an autobot to change little letters into big letters in titles. so there is a fair amount of moderation still going on laugh.gif

The social democrats have built a stella society over the past 60 years HOWEVER, they need to get with the times. Continued govermental control without some serious modernisation of policies will be the end of sweden. As i have heard it said before, 'sweden need large organisations, but large organisations don't need sweden'(i.e sweden needs the taxes! Taxes and unions will force all major corporations and industries offshore. Globalisation has brought an end to age old socialist ideals and how are we to compete with the emerging powerhouses of China and India. the unions must realise that these countries can provide the same output for 1/4 the cost and there simply is no national loyalty when it comes to companies bottom lines. Hell, even I as an individual want to leave due to the tax levels here.

duncs - you've said some good stuff there, with plenty to discuss further.

Sweden, like many other countries, need to continually update their thinking. As you say, the world keeps changing. Imo, there needs to be more debate in Sweden about nationalisation/privatisation. There are substantial benefits and drawbacks to both. Balance is required, and I appreciate it's never easy to find the right balance. But.

We can try.

The Alliance, however, are not trying hard enough.

Infact, they're screwing up.

Examples include SJ, Vattenfall, and now Saab.

These are major errors of judgement.

And they need calling on them.

I think the Alliance are haunted by the Bildt era.

I just dont think they can really change what they want to change as the Swedes will promptly boot them out at the first opportunity.

Here's hoping the Alliance get another four years and can bring in the changes Sweden needs especially when it comes to labour law and red tape!

Mona Sahlin cannot be allowed to run this country. If she wins the election we can be certain of that Sweden will truly be going to hell... I have never seen a Swedish politician saying such shockingly stupid things and behaving in such dumb way like she has.
