We live by movie quotes in our family. If it hasn't been said in front of millions of fans in movie theatres around the world, we don't think it's worth listening to.

My favourite quote ever is from The Usual Suspects.
Verbal: Who is Keyser Soze? He is supposed to be Turkish. Some say his father was German. Nobody believed he was real. Nobody ever saw him or knew anybody that ever worked directly for him, but to hear Kobayashi tell it, anybody could have worked for Soze. You never knew. That was his power. The greatest trick the Devil ever pulled was convincing the world he didn't exist. And like that, poof. He's gone

This quote works perfectly in any situation in which you are asked a potentially harmful question- ie., did you like what I made for dinner? Do you want to go to my parents' for the fourth weekend in a row? Do I look like I've put on weight?

Try it. It works. Nobody can possible continue a dangerous conversation thread after that.

Lou Lo Duca: [during pre-flight briefing to Pollen Jocks]" As always watch your brooms, hockey sticks, dogs, birds, bears and bats. Also I got a couple reports of Root Beer being poured on us! Murphy's in a home because of it, just babbling like a cicada! "

Loads and loads that I like, but the one I use most is probably

"Take a load off"

From Pretty Woman in the scene where she has just got to the hotel suite with Richard Gere and they hear the knock on the door.

I use it on people who are always stressed or racing about doing a million things. Take a load off, basically, take it easy there.

We once spent a memorable weekend, the lovely children and I, when we were only allowed to communicate with quotes from Conan the Barbarian. I saved this one for grace during supper:

Crom, I have never prayed to you before. I have no tongue for it. No one, not even you, will remember if we were good men or bad. Why we fought, or why we died. All that matters is that two stood against many. That's what's important! Valor pleases you, Crom... so grant me one request. Grant me revenge! And if you do not listen, then to HELL with you!

"Gentlemen! There's no fighting allowed in here. This is the WAR ROOM!!"

From the Stanley Kubrick classic, Dr. Strangelove or How I learned to Stop Worrying and Love the Bomb.

IIRC that's also been voted as the "worst line in a movie" ever on multiple occasions.

"GOZER the Traveler. He will come in one of the pre-chosen forms. During the rectification of the Vuldrini, the traveler came as a large and moving Torg! Then, during the third reconciliation of the last of the McKetrick supplicants, they chose a new form for him: that of a giant Slor! Many Shuvs and Zuuls knew what it was to be roasted in the depths of the Slor that day, I can tell you!"

From the original Ghostbusters.

Very very hard to pick just one from this classic:

Walter Sobchak: Nihilists! F*&% me. I mean, say what you like about the tenets of National Socialism, Dude, at least it's an ethos. (The Big Lebowski)

The Dude, in The Big Lebowski, when he is asked for ID, whips out his Von's Grocery frequent shopper card. I still flash back on that. It's not a quote, but it IS great theater.

Maude Lebowski: What do you do for recreation?
The Dude: Oh, the usual. I bowl. Drive around. The occasional acid flashback.

The Big Lebowski is up there on our all time ten best. F'sure.

Ahhh...I can't resist. A couple more

Jackie Treehorn: People forget that the brain is the biggest erogenous zone.
The Dude: On you maybe.
---------------------------------
The Dude: We dropped off the damn money...
The Big Lebowski: We?
The Dude: I! The Royal "we"! You know, the editorial...
---------------------------------
Walter Sobchak: Also, let's not forget - let's *not* forget, Dude - that keeping wildlife, an amphibious rodent, for uh, domestic, you know, within the city - that aint legal either.
The Dude: What are you, a f*&%ing park ranger now?
Walter Sobchak: No, I'm...
The Dude: Who gives a s*&% about the f*&%ing marmot!

That settles it. I'm renting again this weekend. White Russians and the Dude at my place.
