IN PICTURES: The Swedish mining town that's being moved 3km
The demolition of housing areas in Kiruna, a Swedish mining area was scheduled to get underway on Wednesday April 22nd 2015. The town is moving 3km east to stop the country's most northerly town being chomped up by the world's biggest iron-pre mine. Last year, The Local spoke to residents about the relocation that has made global headlines.

"It's necessary, and that's why we accept it and move on. My great grandparents house will be torn down. The thing that really gets me is that it won't be the city I grew up in anymore - it feels weird to think I'll have a new home town. It won't be the same old streets, you know - the place where I learned to ride a bike, for example. It will all be gone and it's strange."
