The results are the most pessimistic of the last eight years that the Skop polling company has asked Swedish households about the labour market.

Skop’s employment index now sits at -43.7, down 14.6 points since June.

Since reaching its high mark of 41.1 points in June 2007, the index has dropped 84.8 points.

At the same time, optimism is a bit greater when it comes to private sector workplaces, with 15 percent believing in personnel cuts, while 31.6 percent expect an increase in staffing, which represents a small increase.

The survey included interviews with 1,100 people conducted between August 18th and September 10th.
