A server previously used by The Pirate Bay file sharing site and taken by Swedish police in January 2008 is now on display at a Stockholm-area museum.

The announcement by Sweden’s National Museum of Science and Technology (Tekniska museet) comes on the eve of the expected announcement of a verdict in The Pirate Bay Trial.

The four defendants in the case, each of whom had a role in operating the popular file sharing site, are charged with being accessories to breaking copyright law and may face fines or up to two years in prison if found guilty.

The server, which The Pirate Bay put into use in 2004, has been added to an exhibit which also includes a 1970s-era cassette tape recorder.

The display attempt to illustrate how the battle over the reproduction of copyrighted material has evolved.

“This gadget belongs in a museum!” said museum curator Nils Olander in a statement.

“It attained major symbolic value by pinpointing a big problem or a big opportunity.”

The server was used to connect different computers with one another to facilitate file sharing.

After it was confiscated by Stockholm county police, the server later landed back at The Pirate Bay before being handed over to the museum in February 2009.

As it is impossible to comment on the latest Pirate Bay news and guilty verdict due to a glitch in the system on this site, I'll simply say here that my experience in "teaching" and coaching business for the last 20 years in universities in the UK, Sweden, and in the US does not leave me feeling confident about the state of ethics in business. While there are still people with honesty, integrity and empathy graduating from university b-schools and entering business, there are far more coming out who will not help us solve the likes of the current economic crisis, nor generate a culture that respects the hard work and property of others.

"...nor generate a culture that respects the hard work and property of others."

What kind of "property" are we talking about? If you talk about "intelectual property", you'll have to explain to me how a "mental" thing can be appropriated and how scarcity even exist when we deal with information.

My ethic is simple: selling information is just a twisted form of sharing, but it still is sharing. See how long the idiotic attempts to limit what people can do with information they received last: sooner rather than later someone comes up with a workaround.
