"We don't have the necessary liquidity to operate so we are ceasing operations," FlyMe CEO Finn Thaulow told AFP.

A request for bankruptcy would be filed at a Gothenburg court on Friday.

Some 2,500 passengers scheduled to fly with the airline on Friday would be affected by the decision, the majority of whom were in Sweden, Thaulow said.

FlyMe has 220 employees and flies to 11 European cities from three Swedish airports.
