Police protest against softer uniform
Over 1,500 Swedish police officers have signed a petition protesting against a new uniform designed to make them look less aggressive.
A report has proposed making the uniform less 'militaristic' by replacing dark blue shirts with a lighter hue. Military-style boots are to be replaced with a more workaday type of shoe.
The committee has also proposed that guns should be made less visible and that badges indicating rank should be replaced with an indication of the particular police officer's role.
The changes are based partly on American research showing that dark uniforms can appear aggressive. But despite this, an online petition against the proposals has so far attracted the support of 1,500 officers.
