The alarm was raised at 11:14 am after the individual claimed that he was carrying explosives in his luggage.

Following the bomb threat the decision was taken to evacuate the terminal and cordon off the area for security reasons.

"It was a passenger at check-in who said that he had a bomb in his bag," Charlotte Periasamy of the airport authority Swedavia, which runs Arlanda, told the TT news agency.

She added; "Police have deemed it a serious threat and therefore decied to evacuate terminal two."

Police were quickly on the scene to investigate the suspicious bag and the man was taken in for questioning.

"There is no indication that there is any substance to the statement, but we have to be safe than sorry," police spokesperson Sven-Erik Olsson told Aftonbladet.

As a result of the disruption departures to Paris, London and Amsterdam were affected and arriving flights were diverted to terminal five.
