Passengers on an aircraft between Stockholm and Örnsköldsvik in eastern Sweden witnessed a dramatic incident when the captain broke down the bathroom door with an axe after a man refused to come out.

The passenger, who was reportedly drunk, had locked himself into the airplane’s bathroom just ten minutes before the aircraft was about to land at 8pm.

Since no passengers are allowed to be out of their seats during landing due to safety reasons, the captain of the aircraft took matters into his own hands and broke the door down with an axe before “securing” the man.

The man, described as in his 50s, is now suspected of crimes against aviation law, a crime punishable by fines or imprisonment of up to six months, according to Västernorrland police.

“There wasn't too much fighting. It was mostly because he did not want to move. He probably didn't actually mean any harm,” Martin Södervall of Västernorrland police told Aftonbladet.

The airline raised the alarm with police, who arrested the man after landing. He was later handed over to his wife.
