Pakistani security forces have arrested a man suspected of plotting to bomb the Swedish embassy in Islamabad.

The man was arrested on Friday and was found to be in possession of two tonnes of explosives, Aftonbladet reports.

Sweden's foreign ministry has confirmed that the man was apprehended in connection with plans to bomb a number of western embassies, including Sweden's.

Authorities in Pakistan have not revealed any further details about the suspect.

Sweden's military presence in Afghanistan is believed to have provided the motive for the planned attack.

There are currently 70,000 foreign troops serving in Afghanistan. Of these 50,000 are part of the NATO-led ISAF - International Security Assistance Force - and are operating in the country on a UN mandate.

In addition there are 20,000 troops participating in the US-led OEF - Operation Enduring Freedom.

The almost 400 Swedish troops in Afghanistan are part of the ISAF force. Sweden recently announced an increase in its commitment to 500 soldiers.

In November 2005 two Swedes were killed in the vicinity of Mazar-i-Sharif and there have been a number of incidents involving Swedish troops that have come under fire.

the pakistan administration once bred these trouble mongers against its neighbours with US funding and now theyre out to get their masters.. hope this nuisance ends soon and sanity prevails in that part of the world.

It's about time US realizes that their strategy of 'An enemy's enemy is my friend' only works in short term and can have horrible consequences in the long term. Countries like Pakistan have to suffer now, due what US did to Taliban regime during the soviet invasion.

crocadoodledoo... I agree with you. Mongers using explosive against those who invented explosive .

2 tonnes, holy s**t. If my knowledge of explosives is right, that will not just blow off the embassy but a significant area around.

The Boomrang effect, now biting Pakistan's bottom.

It is realy an act of cruelty that sabotages the nation of Pakistan. The culprit must be brought to justice.these are the groups who want to harm pakistan but as a pakisani where i m working the embassy is in my neighbour i am realy shocked to listen it.

The terrorist needs to be questioned about why he was targetting the Swedish embassy.

Also the local pakistani community needs to be called upon to condemn this psychopaths actions wihtout reservation.

Really really sad. I just say, Pakistan is facing this problem from many years. Please help Pakistan to come out terriorism. It is shameful to hurt a great nation (Swedes).

Suspected means 1 : to imagine (one) to be guilty or culpable on slight evidence or without proof <suspect him of giving false information.

When you read SUSPECTED word in news it is not confirmed so dont judge a nation over this suspected word if you dont know what it means.Do not trust or judge UNTIL it is proven.

So they are not sure if they were going to target Sweden embassy right. There are many embassies where Sweden embassy is located in islamabad.

But I am glad the Muslim-Pakistani-securtiy force got the (Brain washed Terrorist Loser)

For sure those who commit sucide will go to HELL forever.

Peace be upon Sweden and the rest of the World.
