A police inspector in Landskrona in southern Sweden has been reported to the National Swedish Police Disciplinary Board (Rikspolisstyrelsens Personalansvarsnämnd) for describing a suspect as a "negro in a green military jacket".

The incident dates back to February 1st 2009 when a woman reported that she had been robbed in Landskrona by two men.

In the course of the police investigation, a police inspector since 2000 with the Skåne force and at the time group leader of Landskrona local police, sent an email in which she used the term "neger" (negro).

"On the whiteboard in the incident room there is a picture of a negro in a green military jacket," the inspector wrote according to the report.

The inspector has explained in her defence that she used the word "negro" as it was the term used by the woman who reported the robbery. The initial report of the incident however describes the suspect as "dark-skinned".

The photo was of a young man and was taken in connection with a second reported robbery. The inspector explained that she sent the email, received by around 30 colleagues, to point out that there could be a link between the two incidents.

"Who has taken the picture? Who is it? In a robbery on Sunday one of the attackers was a negro dressed in a green military jacket," the inspector wrote.

The Skåne police authority has now passed on the report to the National Police Disciplinary Board with the recommendation that the inspector be served with a warning.

The police authority writes that the offence is considered to be of a serious nature.

The authority underlines that "light-skinned", "ruddy/red-faced", "slightly dark-skinned", "dark-skinned" and "very dark-skinned" are the official appropriate terms for describing skin colour.

The inspector claims that she was not aware of the official guidelines at the time and points out that in her report of the robbery incident she used the term in quotation marks.

Ridiculous Political correctness! Is,nt it about time western society gets real on this.

Negro is a term for describing a human being whose ethnic makeup is African.

in the same way....Caucasan is a term describing an individual of white, european ethnicity.

I,m guessing that the authorities feel that Negro is similar to the word Nigger which is rooted in the racist lauguage originating in the USA........and it is not the same.

Get real!

Kootize is right!

I am an African American living here and believe me when I say, they make no misunderstandings when they want to use a negative racial description.

This officer has done nothing wrong.

can you people stop all this crap and stop insulting our intelligence. when did the black word for black becomes negro, niger or neger. Swedish word for a black man is SVART MAN and niger is SVARTKALLE and not niger, niger or neger. if the policeman writes in english we say it is wrong but if he writes niger it is alright because it is unknown language for black man. Racism as i always say is institutinalized in Sweden. Neville may be suffering from Identity Disorder Syndrome (IDS)

what are u guys talking about

The inspector claims that she was not aware of the official guidelines at the time and points out that in her report of the robbery incident she used the term in quotation marks

its this not uttering stupid, how can she not know the right words to address then why is she making the reports.

"Who has taken the picture? Who is it? In a robbery on Sunday one of the attackers was a negro dressed in a green military jacket," the inspector wrote

she may also not have any racist act here beacause but used incorrect words and secriptions many times.needs to be careful.

What upsets me the most is that she seemed to feel it was necessary to point out that the military jacket was green.

Why does she hate the military?

As an English person, having lived in Scandinavia,I would politely suggest that the Swedish police get on with the job of catching these negro criminals rather than castigating one of their own officers.Political correctness is a cancer that is destroying the USA and Great Britain and will destroy Scandinavia if you allow it.Stop messing around and just catch the (arguably) racist criminals!

TUTU, The way Swedish persons identify Svart can be implied for anyone that has a dark complection in this country, and sometimes even a brunette, I have often heard a woman with blond hair refer to another girl as Svart or Mörk because she is a Brunette. Racism is very easily stoked when ignorance of local culture is not understood. They know the "N" word and have used it before. Negro classifies a distinctive African type of appearance. Having a knee jerk reaction to this is human for those who feel threatened or insulted by its implications. But knowing cultural applications, be they right or wrong, gives a better perspective of intent.

I have studies Racial Anthropology for more than seven years. IDS - you are probably closer to this disposition. But we can all learn and adapt yes?

I totally agree with Nneville on this one, I am black myself and all I can say is we all should clean up our acts and stop making trouble where there is none.

As for HisNameWasLen, your name is a bitch!

Hello bolababu(hysterical name..not a racist African by any chance are you?)..so as usual anybody who DARES say anything against black on white crime is automatically abused.Do you not realise that these "people" who attacked this innocent Swedish woman are probably guests or at best "asylum seekers" in Sweden...yet they re-pay Sweden by attacking their residents.Inhabitants of USA,France,UK are 30 years ahead of you with this.I find the naivity of the Scandinavians to the threat that faces them extraordinary.

Wow. I thought the USA had the franchise for stupid political correctness. I see we have a serious contender in Sweden.

Political correctness run amuck yet again.

The police officer didn't say or intend to say anything involving a racial slur. It appears he used the word "negro" instead of "black" when describing a suspect.

These people who are so uptight about not using the most currently politically correct word really need to get a life.

I'd be more concerned that the suspect be caught than what the term the officer used.

We know they do not like us so what do you expect when you even steal from them. Stop this discussion, catch the suspect and teach the officer the right words. PEACE!!!
