The bras issued to Swedish female military conscripts easily catch fire and are prone to coming undone, making them inappropriate for the battlefield, claims a conscripts’ rights group.

The lack of combat-ready underwear for Sweden’s women in uniform has been a continuing sore point for the Swedish Conscription Council (Värnpliktstrådet).

“Our opinion is that the Swedish Armed Forces should have ordered good, flame-proof underwear,” Council spokesperson Paulina Rehbinder told The Local.

“There should be suitable apparel for women.”

The poor quality of the standard-issue sports bras prompted a group by female soldiers at the LV 6 military base in Halmstad to voice their displeasure to representatives from the Council recently.

The women complained that the bras’ fasteners have a tendency to come undone when the women performed rigorous exercise, forcing the female soldiers to take off all of their equipment in order to refasten the brassieres.

In addition, the bras aren’t flame resistant and, once lit, can melt onto conscripts’ skin, the Göteborgs-Posten (GP) newspaper reports.

The Council’s Rehbinder accuses Sweden’s military establishment of dragging its feet on the issue.

"It has not been a priority for the higher ups because women make up only around five percent of the Swedish armed forces," Rebinder said, adding that the problem of suitable clothing for Sweden’s female soldiers has existed for more than two decades.

But she hopes a fresh batch of Swedish military recruits may help press the issue with the Armed Forces’ top brass.

"Earlier this year the National Service Administration (Pliktverket) informed them that around 2,000 female recruits were due to enter the service next year. That got them moving,” she said.

If God were an anti-militarist feminist, then perhaps he or she is sending the Swedish army a message. So much for gender equality in the armed forces.

Here's how it was when I was in the U.S. Air Force; First, an Air Force girl would get as hot as fire, then she would lose here bra.

It happens not only in Sweden.

I think they should fix this without using any instant cash because if they don't, instead of helping the group, they might be the one who will drag the team down. Inside the battlefield, they should really be uncomfortable if this happen. They might die not from an enemy's shot, but rather due to their flammable bra.

who wants a bra you cant easily take off if its burning?
09:26 September 23, 2009 by George C
This could be a good military tactic when in battle, imagine an army of boobs running towaqrds the enemy ... hee heee burn the bra lol

Wonderfull.

Not only are your female soldiers so hot their bra's spontainiously combust but they also fly off.

Is this a new Swedish Weapon of Mass Distraction ?

Do you need any English recruits in Sweden ? I'd even take a pay cut.

whoever approves the purchase of those bras must be a man. It was delibrate so that ....... you know......... during training
11:24 September 23, 2009 by Nemesis
This is idiotic.

Firstly whoever is in charge of purchasing in the army, needs to be fired immediately.

Military clothing has to meet agreed specifications. If it does not, the goods should not be paid for. This sounds like a corrupt deal. Why has that not been investigated?
22:12 September 24, 2009 by Coalbanks
They won't get close to combat except after a few hours in the bars anyway, right?

I guess these are news in sweden... And what a funny photo they use... what part of a sports bra comes apart?

I heard of hot women in Sweden, but demanding Nomex bras??? But I guess Swedish women in the military must go out to put out a fire in their underwarez?

I'm not rocket scientist, but if these women are doing heavy exercise, why don't they use sports bra's where there's nothing to come lose??? Like the rest of the women athletes out there...

How is it a bad thing that they come off easily? LOL

And for those bra burning Femi-nazi groups in sweden... they should make a big order from the swedish army... it makes their bra burnings tasks easier?

I find it shameful that so many are wanting to help investigate this problem...

and obviously for prurient purposes...

I would not do that...

But, then, you would not pay for the flight, board and the party needs I would request, either....

Sigh...

I do hope the women get proper clothing and accouterments...

I hope they forgive my dreaming...
