I agree fully with Dr. Dillner's comment above. I also do not think that promoting a Nordic Union - indeed an attractive concept - is necessarily "racist" or "hostile to immigrants". While some of these protest groups on the right do thmeselves a disservice with their childish antics, their reaction is predictable and understandable i light of the "O.P" multi-cultural fiasco(Olof Palme). The left is incincere in its shrieks and invective and needs to be taught a lesson. Besides who is EXPO anyway? Whose errands are they running? Crush the Left at the ballot box in 2010.

I myself am not a 'jackboot' fan but, yes, I do fear that the things I enjoy in western culture are being threatened by the influx of people who 'hate' what the west is all about.

Who, in fact, in their hearts, want to kill me because i am white and an 'unbeliever' of their faith.

How does one integrate with people who, because of their beliefs, are not allowed to accept that males and females be allowed to openly interract on a daily basis?

I have, in the past months, been closely involved with women who wear clothing that covers everything except the face and it gives me the feeling of claustrophobia and I instinctively try to avoid them.

It is a natural response of my physical self to something that I find abnormal.

It is against my principles to feel so inferior to men that I have to wonder whether I am overtramping by looking into their faces when speaking to them.

I believe in God and that I am on earth to try to get along with my fellow earthlings.

I also believe that life is meant to be lived and experienced and we need challenges to grow and develop.

What I am seeing around me today does not allow me to want to follow that stream because it is too stifling.

I know that the western culture is totally amoral and selfish but it gives me the chance to think freely and choose how to behave and to test my boundaries.

I don't mind who immigrates to this country as I myself am an immigrant, but I need to know that what I enjoy and experience is not under threat.

From my experience cultural lumping together breeds contempt and hatred and hopefully enlightenment will come before it is too late.

We should try to know people instead of making snap judgements about them based on their religion, dressing style or where they come from, then maybe people will get along better. PS: I am not muslim but I have friends who are and I met all of them here in Sweden.

I think the concept of multiculturalism was always a naieve ideology that was never properly thought out. It all seemed to be such a lovely idea on paper, but in practise one can easily see it leaves a great deal do be desired. Especially with the types of people that are immigrating to the west today versus 35 or 40 years ago. ( not only Sweden ).

Clearly cultural, sociological and anthropological issues have to play a role in the viability for certain groups of immigrants to intigrate into western society and to embrace our values, beliefs and principles. Too many of today's immigrants values and beliefs clash horribly with the west, and we must therefore ask ourselves what are they doing here?

I also fear that our obsession with political correctness is our ultimate achilles heal.

I'm wondering why we are allowed to comment on this article but not so many of them where people from the Middle East are expressing this type of behavior? You don't hear people complaining about for example latin or asian (oriental) immigrants, that come and adapt well, date and intermarry Swedes (or Europeans), dress alike and fit in well in general. But when you have millions upon millions of just one kind of immigrants come to Europe in a short period of time, with values beliefs and customs that are so totally different form the west's and that on top of that don't seem to adapt well or embrace their new country's ways easily, there is a brewing problem. If you add to that demanding that their ways be treated specially, women's clothing covering their face, wholly dressed in public swimming pools, sharia law, etc, and you start seeing honour killings, violence against women, genital mutilation, rioting, death threats, and in general not blending well with the original populations and way of life, there is problem. Then add reproduction rates way above that of the local populations and the locals feel they are getting run over in their own country.

Multi-culturalism is something that has to be a natural progression for it to work. You can't compare Canada or the USA to Sweden since it genuinely was "shoved down their throat" in Sweden over the past twenty-five years or so.

In North America this was a three hundred year gradual process. Sweden was a relatively homogeneous society that was on the top of the world a generation ago. It's beyond me why Swedish policies were so very determined to change it. I'm not a supporter of the white power groups, but their rise has been a reponse to Swedish immigration policies. For immigration to successfully work you have to pick people who are willing to integrate into the mainstream society. IMHO, Sweden really needs to have a serious look at where it could be heading with the current immigration policies.

Like "Greg in Canada" writes, immigration to the USA and Canada has been a slow process of people immigrating there from all over the world over a period of few hundred years, people who blended and integrated well. Not like what is happening in Europe of very high numbers of mostly Middle Eastern or muslim immigrants, all in a relatively short time and with traditions that are so different from that of their host countries.

Agree with above. The Uk emerged from WWII with a lot of dead men..........lots of jobs to be done and not enough people to do them. The solution was natural....to allow and encourage immigrants from commonwealth countries to enter to help us rebuild. The transition was not easy but it was natural.

It seems to me, Sweden encourages immigration for nothing more than political correctness and to promote its ideology of a higher moral standpoint....ie: helping others from conflict or stress zones.

Bobn and Travels make good points about immigration itself not being the problem but the types of immigrants that are brought here. As we all know (except the extreme left who likes to ignore this little fact), the problems do not lie with immigrants from Latin America, North America, Australia or East Asian immigrants. They seem very adaptable and are almost never at the root of violent crime or robbery here.

If Sweden MUST bring immigrants from the Middle East, why not bring the ones who are truly the most repressed in that society? The women! Imo, accepting only female immigrants from the Middle East would give those people a new chance at life. Sure, it could be called a form of sexism but it's a hell of a lot better than the sexism they face in their own countries. From what I have seen, the Middle Eastern women have a ton more to contribute to society than the men do.

Other Euro countries such as UK, France, Spain, etc that allowed immigration from former colonies were receiving immigrants already familiar with host country culture and language. Sweden had no colonial past so who in the world speaks Swedish? Integrating Muslims into Swedish society, culture and values - good luck with that one.

There were times when I also sympathized the right wing, cause I saw a muslim threat in Sweden. But it's a little different, because there also plenty of well-mannered islami people here with good swedish and good behavior. How can White Power hate them? If 80% of local crimes are done by immigrated muslims, then people should know this. The crime has to be punished, again without noting anything about faith. Multiculturalism hasn't been shoved down Swedes' throats... it's amazing how undemocratic so many of you think Sweden is, and how far removed you are from the reality of Sweden if you think that Swedes wouldn't have stopped these immigration policies if a majority really wanted to. Modern Sweden was founded on populist movements, for crying out loud! The temperance movement, worker's unions, etc. Sweden is an extremely populistic country, so most of the arguments here miss the mark completely. When a majority of Swedes want a change in immigration there will be a change in immigration law. Most Swedes, however, do not currently think that there is a Muslim threat within Sweden... most do not feel that their way of life is being threatened by immigrants. If a time comes when they feel this, then they will rise up and tell the government this.

Most of you are extrapolating your own political views from societies other than Sweden's in coming up with excuses for the Swedish extreme right (that is the subject of this article after all).

Also, some of you seem to have not researched history very well if you think the situation in the USA and Canada has always been of successful integration from the start. When the Irish came, they were discriminated against, as were the Italians, Greeks, and Poles. From the beginning the white settlers did not coexist peacefully with the Native Americans and that continued with any non-WASP type of white, and then black people and then hispanic people. What it took for things to calm down and become peaceful was always time. And that's what I think will happen in Sweden as well. In Sweden, the government gives free education. They have special class's in all kommune's for people with no education to learn to read and write.

In your local phone book, look for the word Kommune. You will see the Kommune address. Call to the Kommune house and explain you need further education. They will enroll you in a class for adults.

Comment: This type of article brings out the worst in some of the elements of any society. I stated earlier that proper research and analysis needed to be done before implementing policies promoting multiculturalism in the (pel mel) fashion it was in fact done in most western countries ( including Sweden). This has therefore created negative sociological and economic results.

This reseach I know for a fact has already been done in Canada by the highly regarded think tank Fraser Institute in B.C. and for the most part ignored by succssesive federal governements. You're right, I think immigration is a problem too, and it should be addressed by rational, level-headed people with realistic and logical solutions. I agree with most of what you said, and it's not racism to be concerned with immigration, integration or their consequences.

However, immigration debates are used by outright Nazi's and racists trying to legitimize their twisted ideologies. There is a huge difference between being concerned with immigration, Swedish culture, integration and all that, and being a racist little snot who marches at White Power rallies and has a picture of Hitler on his wall at home.

The Nazi's are trying to smuggle their illegitimate and horrid ideas into the mainstream through the issue of immigration. It's quite clear that most of the racists posting under this article for example, aren't level-headed people concerned with immigration or integration, but rabid Nazi's foaming at the mouth and being racist.

Criticizing immigration policies is great. Raising issue with integration is splendid. Open debate about the economic and social consequences of immigration, about immigrant communities which are not integrating properly, about how this affects Swedish culture and the positive and negative aspects is what democracy and public discourse is all about. It's constructive and good.

I think you summed it up very well in that sentence. You only have to visit Malmo or remember the recent riots there. The bottom line is that the Swedish version of "multi-culturalism" just isn't working, nor is it likely that it ever will.

I wouldn't say that "multi-culturalism" has been a total success in Canada in every way either, but in general Canada has done a better job due to their longer history with it and having the advantage of the English language, that almost immigrant speaks to some degree when they arrive.

I find it funny that many consider that America and Canada are examples of "multi-culturalism". Let's consider something. Europeans immigrated to North America. There they found a culture much more "open" than their own religiously oppressed culture. So what happened to the millions of locals in North America? I think there are still a few around on some small reservations, but most were killed by either war or disease brought by the immigrating Europeans. Just a brief History lesson.

Also, once the Europeans had taken over they would often fight with other immigrant groups that followed. The Irish were beaten, as were the Chinese and Latin immigrants, only allowing them the small and dirty jobs. Finally what happened is that over time they just melded into one group as the locals adopted parts of the culture of immigrants and vice versa. Look at St. Patrick's Day in the US. Maybe about 10% of the people are actually of Irish decent, but they all are wearing green and drinking beer.

My grandfather came to America from Hungary. He spoke 9 languages, but only taught my mother 1, English. He refused to teach them anything of their old country so that my mother and uncle would appear to be locals instead of immigrants. Today, it is the exact opposite.

All too often they attempt to give special help and provisions to immigrant groups when the now local descendents of previous immigrant groups got no such treatment. It would be like having two kids and only giving one a Christmas present. Surely that will cause dissent and trouble between the two kids, or groups in this case.

Just my personal thoughts on the issue, but once the immigration has started, there is no stopping it.

I agree with you on this 100%. I tried to convey that with my previous post, but I suppose I missed the mark. It has happened in the past and will continue to happen in the future.

I never said that Indians didn't fight, just that they didn't win. Also, some (such as the Cherokee) attempted to adopt the culture of the European Immigrants, but that backfired with the Trail of Tears. I think my point was that this sort of clash of cultures has happened before and one of two things will happen, one culture will completely destroy the other, or there will be a blending of the two cultures into a new culture that is neither of the previous cultures. Either way, one or both of the previous cultures will be forgotten or die out. Not saying this is good or bad, but that it is inevitable.

As to my personal opinion, it doesn't really matter as I am not Swedish nor do I claim to be. I just work for a Swedish company and enjoy reading the news and participating in lively discussion.

Judging by the fact that VW has used statistics from the UK 90% of the time and does not speak "American" English would lead me to believe he is not a "Southern Redneck". I challenge you to find any American (especially in the south) that uses the term "for true". This, as well as other things he said, are British (and to a lesser extent Commonwealth) sayings. The more banding together white Eropeans can accomplish the greater chance that our ability to create better technology and better civilizations will continue. Throughout the world in our traditional Euopean countries and anywhere we touch is improved by our presence. The perfect example of how superior we are and how great our achievements is the fact that Erope has been expanded by the conquests here in North America. I live in Canada and I know that Canada is another extention of Europe. The entire structure used everywhere in North America is white, the great thing is that here in North America especially in Canada our opportunities as a white peoples are endless, we have so much space a great economy and the ability to be free as we are White. It's great to hear of the growth going on in Sweden of White Power groups, it's an omen of great peace and comfort of mind. I have been finding articles from many European countries as well as from publications all over North America talking of the growth of the White Power movement expanding on a regular basis. This is a great sign for the entire globe as we are the only people who have the ability to cause positive change.
