A drunken elk reportedly attacked a pedestrian in the Hölö district of Södertälje south of Stockholm on Tuesday, prompting a response from police.

Police received a call about an aggressive elk shortly after 3pm, the local Länstidningen Södertälje (LT) newspaper reports.

The elk was reportedly hiding behind a bakery when it suddenly attacked a passerby, according to police, who asked from assistance from a game warden in dealing with the hostile animal.

“The game warden recognized the elk. It usually walks around and eats apples, gets drunk, and then gets aggressive,” police spokesperson Björn Engström told the newspaper.

Elks are known to become intoxicated from eating yeasted apples, which can sometimes lead them to become belligerent.

Following the incident, authorities decided to destroy the animal, which was thought to be injured.

The victim of the elk’s attack, however, reportedly survived the incident without serious injury.

Elk/Moose are more like people that we give them credit for.

Hahahahaha. The game warden recognized the elk...

The elk is behaving like a large percentage of the society. That is getting drunk...

This reminds me of a documentary I saw a while ago about a small species of monkeys who often get drunk for similar reasons. Really funny the way they stumble around and suddenly fall asleep like drunken people.

There is a Television show that has been on TV here in America for years. It is a ficticious town called Mayberry. One of the characters was the lovable town drunk, Otis. This sounds like an Elk/Moose that is from the Mayberry woods.

That Elk sure looks like a moose to me!

The real crime here is people getting the underage Elk and Moose drunk, trying to take advantage of them...

Sex with animals is legal in Sweden and we can only lower our heads in shame at the numerous elk, sheep, pigs, monkeys, goats and gods we have turned into drunken strumpets. Shame on us all.

Elk and Moose are the same in Canada. We had a situation in Ottawa (Canada's national capital) where a moose swam across the Rideau River from Québec, and arrived on the Ontario side. Someone reported the incident, and the police showed up.

Confronted with the confused animal, the equally confused policemen pumped 25 rounds of shells into the creature - no tranquilizer darts - no attempt to guide it to an area where it could be trailered and relocated.

My father-in-law could have dispatched the moose with one round - just behind the shoulder blade, and into the heart. I'm quite sure that I could do the same.

By the way, what laws govern necrophilic/bestial sex in Sweden?

We call "elks" as "moose" in Canada. We have another animal that is about half way in size between a deer and a moose which we call elk, just in case there is any confusion.

Moose are very common over here. You don't want to mess with an angry moose. They could easily kill a human. Fortunately they normally avoid people.

How bad is it when the police recognize an elk? Maybe he needs to go to rehab to get over his day-old apple addiction.
