A man has been charged with aiding and abetting the 23-year-old suspected of murdering a 78-year-old woman in the Landskrona car park murder case, while two anti-violence demonstrations will be held in the town on Monday.

Interviews on Easter Sunday backed up the allegations against the 23-year-old man who is being held in connection with the attack.

Head prosecutor Göran Olsson has also charged another individual with aiding and abetting the 23-year-old suspect.

"The man in question is in the (suspect's) circle of friends and relatives," Tommy Lindén, detective with the Skåne police department, told TT news agency.

The prosecutor has until noon on Monday to decided whether or not the 23-year-old should be remanded into custody on murder and aggravated assault charges.

The 23-year-old's lawyer Urban Jansson doesn't agree that the police interview confirmed the allegations against his client.

"They haven't introduced anything that is conclusive," he said.

The 23-year-old also denies the charges against him.

The 78-year-old woman was punched in the face while trying to intervene on behalf of her 71-year-old partner who was being attacked by a man in a parking dispute last Monday. She died at the hospital in Lund on Wednesday.

The event has rocked the Landskrona community. An anti-violence demonstration is planned at Sofia Albertina on Monday at the initiative of the Church of Sweden (Svenska Kyrkan).

"The idea is to move past the powerlessness you feel when something like this happens," Bengt Karlgren, pastor of the congregation in Landskrona, told TT.

Other religious groups are also participating in the demonstration.

A silent, non-political and non-relgious demonstration with flowers will also be held at Rådhustorget (City Hall Square).

"People are upset and sad and don't understand how someone can do something like this. It's horrible," said Kurdi Kara, a writer and one of the organizers of the event.

Torkild Strandberg, chairman of the municipal executive committee, will be participating.

"There is a feeling of incomprehension, combined with rage, that the outcome of an oddly parked car is that a 78-year-old woman dies after such a long life," he said.

The community has been outraged, with threats even being made online. The man's lawyer, Urban Jansson, is concerned about what has been published about the man and his family.

"There has been a build-up of threats that began before he was arrested. The situation is serious and can affect the investigation."

The police have appealed to witnesses to come forward. Thus far around 60 individuals have provided information.

"We have had some response, but we are dependent upon more," Lindén said.

We're anxiously awaiting news about how the Swedish justice system prcoesses the, nameless, 23-year old. He had a difficult chiiiiiildhood. We're supposed to feel soooooorry for him. He needs psychiatric caaaaaaaare. It wasn't hiiiiiis fault. The are extinuating ciiiiiircumtances. We should heeeeeeelp him. He must be readjuuuuuuusted into society. I predict that we will hear the usual liberal drivel from his pathetic, vermin, defence attorneys, and that justice will not be served. Keep your eyes on this story folks, and then draw your conclusions, and remember that when you go to the polls in september.

"his pathetic, vermin, defence attorneys"

So cbeynch, are you saying that he is guilty without a trial and deserves no defense lawyer? That is a knee jerk reaction . I would agree that should he be found guilty then he should be punished in a hard way , but surely he is innocent untill then.

Good point caradoc, but cbeynch has a point as well. When was the last time you heard of a sentence in Sweden that fit the crime?

What does this say about young men. Raised with permisive, non-competitave, self induldged ??? This did not happen with no HISTORY... What ever happened to to simple respect for another....not even the fact a very senior woman was assaulted for no justification. God will sort this out. But, What does this say about young men?

I am very sad for the lost of this lady, I am very sad for the agression of her husband. But I am also very very sad because of those call to use this sad event for the next polls. Do you realise..with your call you act the same as....!!! Honestly I beleive that the role of the justice is not only to announce a severe sentence, it is also to give a chance for the guilty to reconsider his action and to rebuild his live. So fortunately the justice in civilised society is enough mature to act severely and humanely...!

@ cbeynch

You are sick. The news can be about weather and you still talk about politics and polls in your comments. The woman was killed by this animal (cos it aint a "normal" person), sad, horrible, shocking.... yeah true. But what the hell does it have to do with politics. How would you feel if it happens to you and next day some lunatic like you wanna use itfor political interests? Respect her for God sake. You are discusting. And in case you wanna call me something: NO, I AM NOT COMMUNIST AND IF I HAD BEEN IN THAT PLACE I AM SURE I WOULD'VE DONE SOMETHING TO HELP THEM BEFORE YOU COS PEOPLE LIKE YOU JUST LIKE WAITING FOR THINGS TO HAPPEN AND THEN POINTING THEIR FINGERS, BUT NEVER STOP THEM.

@rumcajs: Nothing in a democratic society is better than good healthy debate. Welcome to freedom of expression! At least we are allowed to disagree. Your comment signals to me that you did not quite grasp what I said. I'm sure that if you had your way, you would stifle anything which does not agree with your pre-programmed brain. And to call this murderer an "animal" does a disservice to animals. FYI it has a quite a lot to do with politics. The entire Swedish system of justice has been warped by decades of social democrat, perverted liberalism, where noone gets assume responsibility for their actions. I admit to a fair amount of disgreement with most things left.

The truth is the justice system has no way of every knowing what happened. Not until we allow more monitoring of our public areas. But then you get the people who whinge about "big brother" watching us taking away our privacy. If you ask me I would give away all of my privacy to prevent something like this from happening again.

Perhaps, that immigrant[?] will go onto to other crimes involving younger people,so that you will better understand,he isn't just singling out seniors. I think of those in the case of the American Sea Captain overtaken by Somalian Pirates and wonder aren't they all just about the same kind of people, pushing and shoving others around??
