Sweden mulls legality of the baseball bat

Sweden's Supreme Court (Högsta Domstolen - HD) is to consider whether wielding a baseball bat in a public place is against the law.

In his defence the man argued that he was using the baseball bat to hit balls for his dog to chase.
Furthermore he argued in his testimony that as he had previous been assaulted on two occasions he felt safer in the knowledge that he had a baseball bat with him in the passenger seat of his car.
According to Swedish law the possession of dangerous items such as knives, and other weapons "designed to be used as a weapon in crimes against life or limb", are not permitted in a public place.
The defendant in the case has argued that a baseball bat is not covered by the law and pointed out that it has a number of other uses.
The appeals court however based its rejection of his appeal on the grounds that he kept it on apparent display in his car, and thus can be construed to conform to the legal definition of a dangerous item.
The Supreme Court on Monday gave the man leave to appeal with a date for the hearing to be announced later.

I'm from Tennessee but I'll tell you something. The Mississippi National Guard could take out Gadhafi with baseball bats, in flatbed wagons in 30 minutes!

All those things are potentially dangerous objects. A skillful assassin could kill you with a pair of nail scissors.

I remember when I took my first ride on the Stockholm T-banna more than 30 years ago. I saw those flickor with the pert little backsides and thought, "Wow! Now that's some serious weaponry!"

The main issue here is that Swedes do not play baseball. It is not a common item to have. Its not like the US where everyone has a baseball bat.
Depends. I suppose if you use it with your female partner all evening, she falls asleep, but you resume the act when she is in the process of waking up then you can be charged with "sex by surprise."
why do good citizens have to check the long list of the "dangerous objects" before they leave home?
So in this country if a person manages to save their own life from a criminal the police cannot or will not protect them from are they charged with assaulting the criminal.
Socialist despots will go to any lengths in their efforts to secure ultimate power over those they seek to dominate.
This is another warning to We the People. that Barack Obama and his Socialist agenda must be stopped. A tyrannical government crushing its people's natural right to self defense is abhorrent.
