Man 'executed' in Malmö car park

Police in Malmö are out in force on Wednesday after a man was shot dead by a gunman lying in wait for him in the car park near one of the city's more popular outdoor swimming areas.

“It is rather a gruesome sight. The man is on all fours, it looks like an execution,” witness Tomas Johansson, who arrived on the scene minutes after the shooting, told the TT news agency.

The victim, believed to be in his mid-thirties, was just about to get into a car parked near the Sibbarp campground when he was suddenly shot dead by an unknown perpetrator, who had reportedly been lying in wait for him.

“He was hit by three bullets to the head,” a witness told daily Aftonbladet.

Witnesses stated that the man fell to his knees between two parked cars.

The perpetrator is said to be a twenty-something male, dressed from head to toe in black, according to witnesses.

After the shooting he ran towards the campground. At one point he dropped his weapon, but stopped to pick it up, witnesses reports.

Two areas have been cordoned off by police; one immediately next to the dead man and another about 300 metres away from the body.

A large number of police with dogs are searching for the shooter and a helicopter is circling the area.

Police are also interviewing witnesses on the spot.

“We have about 15 patrol cars on the scene to try to get an idea of what exactly happened. There were quite a lot of people about,” Calle Persson of the local police told the Kvällsposten newspaper.

In addition, police are working to identify the victim and a forensic investigation of the area is being carried out. Police used sniffer-dogs specially trained to find weapons and cartridges.

Britt Strömbäck, the manager of the bathing area, was about 150 metres away from where the man was shot dead.

“I heard three muffled bangs and then suddenly there were police and ambulances on the scene. There was a pre-school group playing a little further away, the sun was shining and everything was peaceful,” Strömbäck said to Kvällsposten.

The police have confirmed that the man died from the gunshots, but are unwilling to disclose how many shots were fired and if they have found any empty cartridges in the vicinity of the body.

"We are close to determining who he is, but we're not quite there yet, " said Marie Persson of the local police to reporters during a press conference two hours after the incident occurred.

Four hours after the shooting local police searched a nearby house, but no suspects were apprehended.

"We are not ruling out that there was more than one involved in the crime," said Calle Persson to Aftonbladet.

The victim was known to the police and they are currently looking into his background for any potential leads to the investigation and a motive for his execution-like demise.

The incident has been classified as murder.

I used to read these things happening in Russia and elsewhere but it seems that now it has come right to my doorsteps.

How nice! What could possibly have brought Sweden to such a state of mayhem, disorder and lawlessness? Any explanations? And how does aftonbladet think we can "cure" it?

I was in Malmö for a business conference this past week. During the four days I was there, an apartment and a restaurant were firebombed, schools were set on fire and the man in this story was executed in broad daylight. I was on Lilla Torget the night before the restaurant firebombing. Today a man was robbed at the train station we used for the conference (Triangeln - http://www.sydsvenskan.se/malmo/article1465082/Tva-personran-i-Malmo.html). Malmö makes the average US city look tame by comparison!

Malmö is the toilet of Scandinavia.

The blue-eyes blond-haired Swedes I know seem so friendly. But they seem to have a dark side, shooting people and throwing bombs everywhere...
18:48 May 11, 2011 by Sweetdishgurl
I am born and raised in "the toilet of Scandinavia, or "little Baghdad" as I like to call my once peaceful and beautiful Malmö. I am ashamed of my country and how stupid it is. We have to stop letting all the asylum seekers into Sweden. That is the one and only reason Malmö is going to the toilet. The rest of Europe will not accept Middle Eastern or Eastern European trash but here is Sweden with its open borders letting in the worst of the worst. We need to control the immigration and integration problems NOW, stop letting more in and focus on what we got. Let Denmark and Norway take the rest- oh wait, they refuse. Wake up and smell the Gevalia!

One witness speaks about "three muffled bangs" (which suggests a silencer was used), the victim was shot three times in the head and the criminal was waiting for him.

A hired murder, maybe?

I posted on the "Discuss" forum as to whether or not Malmo is a place to avoid for a tourist visiting Sweden. Most people told me its still worth a visit, but the more I read about Malmo, the more serious are my doubts about the place.

@Infart and Syftfel

If one shooting after quite sometime is so bad then your own country i.e. US should be hell on the earth! (Last time it was long ago that a racists was shooting dark skin people) Funny how you have come to Sweden and you expect American conservative barbaric policies here as well! That's it. American way of life, more guns and shooting!
21:13 May 11, 2011 by virgoman
@Sweetdishgurl, where does the article read that the shooter was an Immigrant? why don't you see better solution to your nagging problems than running your filty fingers on your keyboards typing nonsense. For someone to be shot three times in the head and probably with a silencer attached to the gun, then there are more questions to be asked.....

Details about the dead guy should be known. And one more thing, I heard Malmö is a den of drug users............
21:49 May 11, 2011 by Infart
@Iraniboy-

In case you haven't noticed, Malmö has turned into a sh*thole over the last 20-30 years. Care to speculate as to what has changed there?? I didn't think so.

Also, there are no restaurant bombings, car burnings or that type of "cultural enrichment" going on in the US. Furthermore, there are 800,000 Iranians living in my home city of Los Angeles alone. The most outside of Iran. They don't seem to share your hatred for the US or your view of it as a "police state" or whatever. LOL @ that.

Just keep burying your head in the sand at the real reason for Sweden's problems and SD will just keep doubling their support. Thanks!

A sordid violent city led by a racist mayor, policed by racist policemen and populated by a racist and divided population. Dig up the E6 and the railway line before this rotten city infects the rest of Sweden.

Anyone who thinks Swedish social democracy, and imigration policy is a good thing should be made to live there for a year.

@Sytfel

Oh dear

It looks like Sweden's Arms Exports are coming back here to be used on the streets!!

I suppose the saying "what goes around comes around" might possibly be the case here!

Lawlessness and disorder! Where were your comments after Valborg?

The severe amount of lawlessness and disorder that happened across the country and I notice you had no comment on this story. I guess you were sleeping off your hangover. Just good old boys behaving badly

Hell would have had no fury if foreigners had be responsible for the troubles over Valborg eh!
00:29 May 12, 2011 by Infart
@ Coolbreeze-

I didn't hear about any bombs going off or execution-style murders at Valborg. What a weak attempt to draw a correlation there. It falls REALLY flat.
03:53 May 12, 2011 by soultraveler3
An execution-style murder with a possible silencer sounds more like organized crime than extremists. Same with the bombing the other night, you bomb at night to scare people not to kill them, again organized crime seems more likely.

Either way Malmö sounds like a scary place to be atm.
04:42 May 12, 2011 by StuartM
I thought my native city of Glasgow was bad but now I'm beginning to think I'll be at far more risk of violent crime once I move to Skåne in August. Hopefully though I'll get somewhere to live in Lund where things are probably a bit more peaceful and I imagine must of these shootings and bombings we hear about are mafia or gang related anyway. The authorities however seriously need to do something as it's beginning to give Sweden a bad reputation. Stopping immigration won't make any difference when the majority of immigrants are perfectly decent, law-abiding people but the police have to get genuinely tough on all the thugs and gangsters who ruin things for everyone.

American corporation U-Park annouced yesterday that their policy of not allowing clients to park on the lines will be strictly enforced at their Malmo facility.
11:01 May 12, 2011 by Iraniboy
@infart

Malmö is not shithole! Like I said before these incidents of crimes happen everywhere in the world and the US has the highest rate. I have no hatred against US. I admire them for their cutting-edge science progross. I respect those 800,000 Iranians who live there but they choose and they like to live in American way. But I'm here because I like this Swedish way more. If you are here you it should mean that you want this way of life but you and other American posters are just promoting your American way of life and you want to make the Sweden to America. This can't work. If you or I really like that kind we should go to the US instead.

I really don't care about SD, they also got support in 1990s when the economy was bad. Read more about SD supporters. They are only 5% and they mostly low educated low paind or unemployed. This is not immigration they are concerned nor they are racists. They happen to in the wrong time and they can't think of a better solution . As a matter of fact, you should know that SD is anti EU let alone anti-US! So you'd better avoid them too.

13:17 May 12, 2011 by J Jack
People here keep going on about how bad it's getting but it has been this way since I first lived in Malmo in '92 at least. It appears Sweden has been in denial about crime ever since Olof Palmer was hit. As for Denmark, it's just as bad if not worse. Grubbla grubbla ..
13:47 May 12, 2011 by rohermoker
It must be as easy to buy a gun in Sweden as it is in the US.
14:38 May 12, 2011 by Syftfel
@iraniboy: Your hatred for the West is evident in most of your oafish comments. You've probably established a shortcut on your keyboard for the combination "US". But that hatred is nothing compared to my total, dedicated and utter loathing of islam. Who do you think hates more? You the US? Or me islam? Would be interesting to compare notes. You also hated George Bush. I liked him. But then again I hate O. a lot more than you ever hated Bush. Guaranteed! But you're right on point, I firmly believe that at this stage Sweden needs about 20 years of hard right policies. And the elimination of social dems, and that other mental disorder known as "liberalism".

18:34 May 12, 2011 by Icarusty
@Syftfel So iranboy says he doesn't hate the US (or the West if you like), you reply by saying you hate Muslims more. Well done.
18:56 May 12, 2011 by Infart
@ Iraniboy-

Dude, as much as I hate to say it, Malmö truly is a sh*thole. I've lived there. Trust me. Maybe you feel at home there but I certainly do not. It's no fun trying to go for a run at night and getting yelled at by groups of Arabic-speaking idiots. It's no fun trying to walk down the street with this Iraqi chick who I'm really good friends with and having her getting verbally abused by Muslims for walking around with a 'kaffir'. It's no fun watching a Swedish girl walk down the street by herself at night and being harassed by a group of Africans.

Restaurant bombings and attacks on police/ambulance/firefighters do not happen in the US.....anywhere...not even Compton. Malmö is a toilet and I feel horrible for any Swede who grew up there and has had to watch their city become so.
20:15 May 12, 2011 by Icarusty
Maybe you should reverse the roles. Non-white women get verbal abuse from her own races' men for hanging out with a white man, and white women getting harassed by black men when on her own.

Now compare this with non-white men getting physically assaulted (in some cases leading to permanent disability - more money on the health system) by white men. And non-white women getting raped and eventually killed by white men who have married and thus trapped them in a country where they have no friends and support.
21:51 May 12, 2011 by Infart
Reversing the roles is invalid. The incidents that I describe happen on a weekly (if not daily) basis. The incidents you describe happen extremely rarely.

Violence, anti-Semitism and racism in Malmö should of course be taken into account. But Malmö is still far to be the most dangerous city of the world.
04:29 May 17, 2011 by volvoman9
iraniboy, I have seen your rants in every story related to middle eastern issues in Sverige and abroad. Why can't you face the reality of your situation. You are here because you longed for the freedoms that the culture here offers. You left your beloved Persia because of the oppressive culture it eschews. Face the facts and become a Swede or get the f@#k out you miserable sheep f@3ker.
