Man arrested for murdering mother

A 38-year-old man has been arrested on suspicion of murdering his 73-year-old mother in a summer house on an island in Lake Mälaren in eastern Sweden late on Wednesday night.

"It may concern strangulation or suffocation. As far as I know there is no evidence to suggest that the woman was subjected to excessive force," said duty officer Mikael Petterson.
Police forensics combed the summer house during the night and Thursday morning. The body is due to be subject to examination.
Why the 73-year-old, who police said registered at an address in southern Stockholm, was on the island is not known. The house where she was found dead was used by the suspect's son. It was his wife who called the police at 10.30pm to state that he mother-in-law was dead.
His wife was not in the summer house at the time, and was instead in the couple's home. According to police, her husband phoned her and told her that his mother was dead.
Police officers who arrived by boat and helicopter at the island immediately suspected that the woman had been killed, according to Mikael Petterson.
