A 10-year-old child was behind the death of 4-year-old Texas in Ljungby in south central Sweden, according to police who on Wednesday announced that that the crime has been solved.

"The boy has told us what he did and how he did it and there is a confession in that," said head of information at the Kronoberg county police, Robert Loeffel to news agency TT on Wednesday.

Police revealed that the little boy had been strangled with a skipping rope.

The 10-year-old came to the attention of police early in the investigation and he has been questioned several times.

"There has never been another suspect than this boy," said deputy prosecutor Yvonne Rudinsson to TT.

Finally, on Tuesday, he revealed what had really happened on the day in mid-October when 4-year-old Texas died.

According to the prosecutor there was a breakthrough during Tuesday's questioning.

"I won't elaborate on what he has said, but new information has emerged in all the interrogations," Rudinsson told TT.

The police are still classifying the incident as murder but are unwilling to disclose any more of the particulars around the death of the boy, such as what sparked the fight that led to the tragedy.

"As far as I am concerned, the crime is solved," said Rudinsson to TT.

It has been approximately two months since Texas disappeared from a playground where he had been playing with a group of other children.

The same night, on October 16th, he was discovered dead in a wooded area near his home.

A witness who was in the area that night confirmed that there had been a fight among the children playing in the playground and police have from an early stage in the investigation been working on the theory that a child might be the culprit.

Is there any hope, any hope at all, for mankind? No, there isn't.

One 10-year-old isn't mankind. He is one out of 7bn. Remember that.

Most reporters / translators for TheLocal.se seem crippled in terms of writing in English. It's almost ridiculous to read the tragic news up here!

@rise

Never lose hope. It may have been one of the most tragic news I have read here in Sweden but we got to believe in ourselves and believe that other people still have compassion in them.

I am with Roaringwater and spo10, there is certainly hope... 50 years ago this might not even have made the news!

We should also consider the "small town" flavor of Swedish news. Relatively isolated incidents start to feel like patterns of behaviour... I think part of it is in that names are never given, so every repeated news article feels like a new crime, and because every news source carries the same stories, so we read them over and over... and there just isn't much else interesting to read about!

Maybe, just to be safe, we remove the 10-year-old's testicles now?

J Jack, just out of curiosiy, which country that has never had a kid kill a kid would you mave your kids to? And more importantly, what country where it is sure not to happen in the future could you take them to? UK wouldnt work. terrible history of child murdurers. US is a no go to since its crawling with kids murdering kids.... Where would you go?

First of all i would just like to say that this is a tragedy that shouldnt have happened. It is a horrible thing that has happened..

The next thing is to J Jack, i have 2 kids of my own and i understand you, but like Grindsport says, where is a safe place? if you stop to think about it. Im from the Uk living in the place it happened, and yet now there are kids playing outdoors again, having fun etc, so for a few weeks every one was worried but now its getting back to normal. I dont feel uneasy or unsafe here and i wouldnt worry too much about my kids playing here, although the way they do things over here is a bit different, theres not always a parent around since its a huge apartment complex. And this is to NataBee, as im from the UK and living in Sweden i can see that swedish people say things differently, they have to take time to think about the words etc, the way the are said, and some words dont even translate. If your not speaking your natural language then you cant expect to be perfect, but as long as it makes sense to most people who cares??
