Swedish hospital seeks new 'hot' nurses

A hospital in Stockholm has published a job advertisement trying to attract nurses who are both qualified and "TV-series hot" in what has been explained as an "attempt to catch people’s attention".

"We're looking to recruit competent nurses above all, but we wanted to stick out a bit with our advertising campaign, and we managed to do that," said nursing manager Jörgen Andersson of the Stockholm South General (Södersjukhuset) to The Local.

The advert read:

“You will be motivated, professional, and have a sense of humour. And of course, you will be TV-series hot or a Söder hipster. Throw in a nurse's education and you are welcome to seek a summer job at Södersjukhuset’s emergency department."

“We want people to be curious and have a little imagination,” said the head nurse Elisabeth Gauffin about the campaign to the Metro newspaper.

The internet advert has now clarified that the term "TV-seriesnygga" and "Söder hipster" were phrases directly borrowed from a quote from daily Dagens Nyheter's Sunday supplement, where a satisfied customer had praised the service of the hospital using the same words.

The Swedish word “snygg” (or “snygga” in this case) can be translated as somewhere between hot and good looking.

However, Andersson doesn’t believe that the advert could be interpreted as exclusionary.

"We think that people understand that it was written to catch people’s attention, there's been no negative feedback,” he said.

The positions are advertised to fill the vacation cover for the summer of 2012, with the opportunity of permanent employment thereafter.

The ad did not specify if a photo must be attached with the application, but Andersson says it would make no difference.

"Of course, being good looking is no requirement at all. We put out an ad looking for interest and we got a great response. We want a nurse who is qualified and good at their job, regardless of looks," he told The Local.

I should really not comment on this article.

I greatly approve of this. Exposing sick, weak and injured people to old ugly nurses without any form of social skills is rude and unacceptable. Both the recovery and level of comfort during the medical stay will much more enjoyable. More business should take this course, especially in Sweden with a massive surplus of hot and good-looking women (Looking at you SAS).

At the same I greatly disapprove of male nurses, flight attendants and security personal.

How about they forget how hot they are and hire someone who is competent?

When it comes to health care I would rather have the nurse and doctor have an actual brain with common sense and competent than they be hot looking!!!! Just another way to exploit women's looks!!! Unless the ad will also work for the hot sexy male nurses as well? But I didn't see anything in this article about that.

TV-series hot? Not with the picture above!

Great idea, why not make this a normal requirement, would make trip to hosp more enjoyable for all......

HAH, no kidding, if you have to spend 8 hours in a waiting room might as well give us some eye candy to look at.
09:26 February 21, 2012 by hilt_m
efm not sure if it is sexiest, since the position is not gender specific, but i can go along with disrespectful. It's a marketing gimmick that's probably going to end up causing more trouble than it's worth.

I would have thought that the picture accompanying the story will be one with some "TV-series hot" twin towers

Pretty weak defense - this is real discrimination , they should be penalized/sued.

These days it's very easy for employers to discriminate against you without you ever knowing - on your lifesyle, political beliefs or looks because of the internet.

The internet is the new loophole that the Big Brother employer is taking full advantage off and limiting your freedom and free speech.

Don't agree with mass immigrations and want to be free to say that? Well too bad - you are unemployable .

This needs to be regulated.

Great initiative when you think about it.

Having hot nurses will surely make you feel better so this is a great health benefit

This article proves that the vast majority of The Local commentators don't read past the headlines, which makes perfect sense since most commentators here are people with an agenda, many who have never lived in Sweden. Remind me not to take rants here seriously anymore. :D

This is further proof that Public Health Administrators in Sweden are in a bubble.

Publish and pay for an Ad. Later say, we were not serious. More like, "I was making a joke while drunk and clicked the submit button. Later I found out the ad was published and quick made up an excuse."
16:42 February 21, 2012 by acidcritic
I believe there is no need of that. While living in Sweden I broke a leg and I had to be hospitalized. The nurses were so beatiful that I was ready to broke my self the other leg in order to stay longer in the hospital
17:33 February 21, 2012 by Pearlski
Obviously people who take this to seriously are not up for the job...it's supposed to be funny. Also where does it say hot female nurse? No gender is specified and I'm not offended myself...

Must be hard as a women in some situations, but this isn't one. Sorry.
21:18 February 22, 2012 by Kazooskibum
If a hot nurse makes me feel better, I'm all for it. As long as they are competent.
04:52 February 23, 2012 by italy81
The day I'll need medical treatment, this's the hospital I want to go to.
09:41 February 23, 2012 by Aussie89
Most of the female nurses in hospitals that I have seen so far are attractive anyway, I don't think you have to try hard. We're in Sweden - hello?
11:59 February 24, 2012 by Da Goat
while you are recruiting ......send some out to my local hospital ...we need some fresh nurses as ours are getting close to the use by date!
18:30 February 28, 2012 by OUIJA
I knew it. The Local double moral deleted my post where I stated that I prefer to be treated by a "hot" nurse like the one in the picture, than by the tens they have "taken care" of me during my very long pilgrimage in the Swedish hospitals. With the exception of a Norwegian with the name of Stine, the majority, and I mean, the majority of the "nurses" who took "care" of me, were ugly and that is my opinion, you morons of The Local. What is wrong with this post? Or your politically correctnes says that poster cannot express their opinions on nurses? Give me a break!
