Prince Charles shoots hoops with Swedish PM

Prince Charles locked horns with Swedish prime minister Fredrik Reinfeldt on a basketball court in Stockholm on Thursday, before lunching with Princess Victoria on Friday for her first royal engagement since the birth of Princess Estelle.

The Prince of Wales has been busy since arriving in Sweden on Thursday, kicking things off with a visit to the Fyrahuset youth centre in Stockholm, where a show was performed with singing, dancing, and basketball highlights.

The prince was accompanied by Camilla, Duchess of Cornwall, Queen Silvia and prime minister Reinfeldt.

Both the prince and Reinfeldt delighted crowds with their enthusiasm to shoot a few hoops.

However, the prince’s ball skills left a lot to be desired.

In terms of statistics, Charles came away with an empty scorecard, reportedly shooting zero for three attempts, according to TT.

Reinfelt, however, missed his first but drained his second and called it quits with a cool 50 percent field goal percentage. A rematch, for the moment, would appear to be a long shot.

On Friday, Sweden's Crown Princess Victoria and her husband, Prince Daniel, met with Prince Charles for a lunch at the Royal Palace in Stockholm, taking a temporary break from her maternity leave.

Victoria has been on leave for the month since the birth of Princess Estelle, and according to Annika Sönnerberg, spokesman of the Royal Palace, the princess will be back to her usual duties ”when it’s possible”.

The English Prime Minister, David Cemeron, goes to the US and watches a basketball game with Barak Obama. Charlie boy comes to Sweden and lobs a ball at a basketball hoop with the Swedish PM. Cameron has a hot dog with Obama --- not that he seemed to have eaten one before from the look on his face in the photos issued later. Did Charlie have a grillkorv after playing hoops? Probably refused thinking it was one of his mother's dogs being served up in a bun. Had it been his father then there would have been no hesitation in eating the dog --- the real one.

There's another one out there, Prince Andrew, the best friend of world famous pimps and bloody dictators!

All of them are arrogant malicious spies with venom. The world is the perfect place without them!!!

So, as this article states, the Prince's Balls lack skill.

I still don't understand the use of this people in this world. How the English population pay this dumb asses for doing nothing. Some crowns in some countries may do something, but this royal family sucks.

Royalty is a wonderfully rich part of human culture and played a leading part in world affairs. I feel sorry for those ignorant of its modern day role. Inferiority complex, jealousy and ignorance seems to shape most of the rather sad and cliched anti royalty opinions. Welcome to Sweden Prince Charles and Camilla, have a great time!!!

I personally can't see anything wrong with the respectable and honorable European Royals, inc. Swedish Royalty. However, the price hasn't been yet paid by eternal troublemakers of the earth who had inflicted:

the Great Bengal Famine - 10 mln dead;

the Great Irish Famine - 1 mln dead;

Inhumane slavery and trade in Africa, the Caribbean with the aims to profit immorally;

provoking WW1 and WW2;

bombing and killing cowardly 25000 civilians of Hamburg and Dresden for nothing;

stirring up Jewish-Arab/Muslim confrontation and exporting this across Europe and the world in the name of their immoral profits, greed and jealousy to others.

This is real fascism against the mankind and has no boundaries!

Welcome to Sweden from all the 'Job's Comforters' on thelocal!!

At least Prince Charles has bothered to visit a relatively insignificant country like Sweden at all - presumably part of the visit is to further improve, and cement relations between the two countries.

Meanwhile, go ahead - its great fun to sneer and poke fun at world figures: its much harder to get a life...

You just have to hand it to Prince Charles.

Word is that he has never been interested in ball game sports - yet he doesn't mind making a fool of himself for photos like this one. The guys in the background look as if they are taking lessons from the 'master' Lol!

"Royalty is a wonderfully rich part of human culture and played a leading part in world affairs. I feel sorry for those ignorant of its modern day role."

That's an anachronistic view of royalty. And as Greysuede has implicitly pointed out their involvement in world affairs has been to instigate wars ... many times against members of their family. Even the Bernadotte house is founded on war as descendants of a moneyed French general.

Being English by birth and by original nationality I understand the modern role of royalty very well. As i wrote in comment to the earlier Local article about Charlie's arrival in Sweden they are parasites; he does nothing of his own ... unless his interests are affected by proposed legislation at which point he has a veto over what the electorate wants. His duchy claims not to be a company so mandated corporate health and safety or risk assessments should not apply; the information commissioner disagrees and has demanded that such assessments be published.

And take a look at how he and his family treat Diana his first wife; although she wasn't really a wife just a womb from which the next in line of parasitical succession would emerge that being the sole qualification for the modern role, out of whose womb did they emerge. At least when they waged war there was some logic to who got crowned now it's just from whose legs.

@ Opinionfool - I think at the very least, there should be an open and frank review of exactly how Charles' powers to affect UK legislation are being applied.

After all, if you have TWO landowners affected by a Parliamentary bill - one of whom is Prince Charles - why should HE have any more 'clout' than the second landowner?
15:22 March 24, 2012 by Opinionfool
@SimonDMontfort

Yes there should be an *open* and frank discussion of Charlie's powers but the problem is -- to keep the metaphor of this article -- it's his ball. Discussion of the topic by either house of the British parliament is proscribed so unless he voluntarily gives up this privilege discussion is pointless because the law cannot be changed.

Ah no, it is that his interests are only to do with land ownership. His "interests" are very broadly drawn. If he should want to block a development in London because he thinks it "a carbuncle on the face of a friend" then even without any true interest he can exercise this veto.

Again in metaphor, it's like he's not only player but owner of the ball, referee and rule maker all at the same time.

What a pathetic waste of money and life!

I think that the reason why most do not like Monarchies in because they are either jealous or ignorant. For those who detest Royal Families that much, do you really think a President would be better? For example, the ex-pats from the UK, would you want Tony Blair being President? Gordon Brown? David Cameron? I think I know what your answers would be - hell no! There are many countries round the world, who still are still Monarchies and there is nothing wrong with them. Sweden, Norway, Denmark, Belgium, the UK, Netherlands, Spain, Japan to name some of the big ones!

If you are so unhappy with Monarchies what would you suggest?
