Sweden hosts mystery 'terror regime' meet-up

Published: 4 Apr 12 15:13 CET | Print version
Online: http://www.thelocal.se/40094/20120404/

A pro-Eritrean regime youth group is hosting a large international conference somewhere in Sweden over Easter weekend in what outraged Swedes have billed as "brainwashing" for a "terror regime".

Among the guests will be President Isaias Afewerkis closest man, advisor Yemane Gebreab.

“It is bloody awful that they brainwash kids and collect them all together in Sweden to celebrate the dictatorship,” Swedish-Eritrean MP Arhe Hamednaca of the Social Democrats told news agency TT.

According to a statement from the youth organization Young People's Front for Democracy and Justice (YPFDJ) some 800 exile Eritreans are expected to attend the meeting, which will take place in Sweden between April 5th and April 9th.

Head of information at the Swedish foreign ministry, Anders Jörle, says that the ministry has not had anything to do with arranging the Eritrean visit.

"But we do have the freedom of assembly in this country," said Jörle to news agency TT.

However, Hamednaca thinks that allowing the meeting is taking Swedish freedom of speech and the freedom of assembly too far.

“I don’t think we would have allowed al-Qaeda to host a meeting brainwashing kids,” he said.

That the Eritrean regime supports Islamist movement al-Shabaab, the Somali branch of al-Qaeda, is common knowledge and the information has been ratified by the UN, Hamednaca opined.

“This is part of that movement. It is a terror regime,” he said adding that Sweden should never have granted Gebreab a visa.

The exact location for the event has been shrouded in mystery. While YPFDJ had booked the exclusive Stockholm night club Berns for their final party, the event was later cancelled by mutual agreement.

The move comes following several Swedish media reports accusing Berns of "taking money from a dictator" by agreeing to host the event.

"I think it's inappropriate. If I owned a venue I wouldn't rent it out to an organization that promoted a dictator," Liberal Party (Folkpartiet) MP Fredrik Malm told the Expressen newspaper.

According to TT, the Eritrean organization has arranged a concert in Husby, in northern Stockholm on Saturday. The event has been advertised on a news site, known to support the regime.

But those in charge of the venue are unaware of the arrangements as the location has been booked by an individual and not in the group’s name.

And according to Kjell Lindgren of the Stockholm police, he would have been informed if the event was to be held somewhere in Stockholm County.

However, it is Swedish security service Säpo which will decide if the presidential advisor will require protection while in Sweden.

”That is always the case when we have foreign visitors who are part of a country’s regime, Säpo will take care of their protection. But the Stockholm police are of course following developments and are ready with resources, should they be needed,“ he told TT.

In Sweden there is widespread criticism against the foreign ministry as well as the government for not doing enough to get Swedish-Eritrean journalist Dawit Isaak, jailed in Eritrea for the last ten year without a trial, released.

Anders Jörle was unable to disclose whether there will be a meeting between ministry officials and representatives for the Eritrean government during their time in the country.

“But if there is a possibility to meet representatives for the Eritrean regime, the ministry will attempt to do so,” Jörle added.

Shameless youth group trying to take the side and thereby legitimize the acts of the tyranny; are not they even aware of their presence here in Sweden is meant to have better protection-a better place where they can live and work with out any single fear of presecution- that they had been denied of in their home country...You better stand againest the tyranny and dictatorial regime so that your fellows won't still keep on longing for fleeing abroad, due to the ongoing and massive violations of human rights, as if you were born homeless!!

The Local: The headline is unfair and innacurate.

Just because a meeting takes place somewhere within the borders of Sweden does not mean the government of Sweden has organised it, or approves of the subject matter - as the word "hosts" implies.

Eritrae may be a repulsive regime, but Eritreans have a right to meet anywhere they like within Sweden. It is the government's duty to defend that right. If Eritrean born Swedish MP Arhe Hamednaca of the Social Democrats wants to live in a country where freedom of association is banned, I suggest she take a good look at Eritrae, where that sort of thing, and much worse, is the norm. She has chosen to live in Sweden, then she must follow the rules that apply in a democracy, not try and change Sweden into some sort of African banana republic.

Unfortunately this article is full of distortion. YPFDJ's mission is quite clear as laid out in the Eritrean National Charter and is based on the six goals therein. In that way it is completely transparent.

The activities involved in each conference are fully transparent to all members in attendance, however, like most organizations, non-members are not afforded full review of all materials. Clearly, if one wanted to see what was on list of activities one would have to register and attend the event, clearly the author has not done this.

To dislike an organization is fully within ones right in a liberal society, however banning such organizations is reminiscent of the regressive northern European parties of yesteryear.

The irony is, you have not even made the effort to hear from ypfdj organizers and let us know their part of the story. This is a biased story and looks part of the media attack on Eritrean community in Sweden, which we have been witnessing over the last few days from Expression newspaper as well.

A proffessional story would balance the information and not take side. Because of the arrest of a single man (dawit isaak, who is Eritrean), the whole Sweeden has beomce a hostage of this matter and busy tarnishing Eritrea and Eritrean communities with lies.

I say, be courageous and find out the truth about Eritrean Communities in Sweeden and activities of ypfdj, and not just repeat old stories.

Sweden has laws about freedom of speech and freedom of assembly, we can't just try to remove those liberties when someone we don't like try to use them.

For the laws to be worth anything, they have to apply to everyone, not just people we like.

Now, about Dawit Isaak, if he is a Swedish citizen, Sweden needs to do something about the fact that one of our citizens is being held illegally.

What I seriously respect about muslims, is their unshakable support of each other.

Now if this post would be about a zionist organisation that has a camp for Jewish kids in Stockholm, this article would have 120 posts by now. However when it is discussing Eritrean government that by itself caused deaths and suffering of many muslims.... Government that openly supports Al-Shabbab - an organization that even the most ruthless salafist groups take a distance from (due to events of skinning people alive, forcing kids to murder their own family and making people slaves for the group) and most of all - an organization which kills MOSTLY muslims and not "Jews and Crusaders"; there are few posts.

Out of these few, MAJORITY actually expresses an unbelievable support of swedish liberalism and openness, which apparently halt to be valid when we are talking about SD, caricatures of Mohammad, israeli sportsmen who come here to play tennis.

Hell, liberalism should not be valid in any case there is a discussion of islamic terror and crime rates, as it is hurting the soft souls of the followers of this loving religion...

Apparently, supporters of a government that makes SS cleansing squads look like a bunch of catholic nuns lost in the woods, should have a right to meet and discuss the glorious operations that shall ascend upon the heads of western crusaders... Apparently the journalist expressed his hate towards the ENTIRE eritrean people by expressing his view of the event...

Mmm. This unity is impressing and actually it is quite fascinating how people who ran away from precisely such groups, defend these meetings so loyally, just for the reason that the discussion is taken in a european-christian-pigs media, while the europeans should STFU and gracefully accept whatever comes here from all over the world, without any right to express any doubts in anything that is arriving from there. As it is known that only good is coming from these blessed by Allah countries.

Sweden seems to move towards a political anarchy that most countries has managed to leave behind them. People with non mainstream political view, usually called dissidents, are harassed and often physically attacked. Pressure and intimidation is used as a tool to make life difficult for them. These are just hallmarks of a dictatorship.

This is funny and shocking, Sweden media's became too biased. how come they write this kind of Article, which is totally untrue, and we Eritreans you call Our Government whatever you like, we will support Our Government to death. We know what is going on in this fake world and We know Our Leaders better than anyone. so we will stick forever with them.

That is right, Swedish media has become too corrupt these days, it is funny to me that not even one media has so far exposed how the Ethiopian Gov. is sending and training people abroad who are trying to fool us by looking like Eritrean opposition groups and yet, work under total desire of Woyane. I have witnessed this in real event. As i have met many some people calling themselves opposition but are not connected with Eritrea either by blood or history.

We are Eritreans, We Never Kneel.

Love from Beijing.

what're these Youth Eritreans doing in Sweden, if their beloved government is really good? Why would their fellow young compatriots risk their lives in the Sinai desert, Red and Mediterranean seas? Why would their country biggest exports are refugees to all over the world?
17:19 April 16, 2012 by cabralb
That is right Awash!!! These government thugs are also trying to mess up the very cause of being a human.

Eritrea is the only country in the world without a constitution, period! Can anyone defend this truth of legitimize it in anyway? The story that follows in the absence of an agreed-upon constitution is simple and plain. tens of thousands behind bars for more that a decade without a trial, A massive out flow of youngsters, arbitrary killings and torture, and a regime busy protecting the bench.
