Second suspect arrested in teen stabbing case

Another person has been arrested in the investigation of the Landskrona killing on Monday in southern Sweden, where a 19-year-old woman was stabbed to death.

“This is a woman born in 1973. She was apprehended at 6pm on Wednesday and was formally arrested at 8.45pm," said police spokesperson Eva-Lotta Hermansson Truedsson to news agency TT.

According to prosecutor Magnus Larsson, the arrested woman could be described as close to the victim.

He said that the woman is under suspicion of instigating the murder and that it is possible that the circle of suspects could widen.

The 19-year-old woman was found dead just before midnight on Monday in her apartment in Landskrona in southern Sweden, with multiple stab wounds to her body.

Currently, it doesn’t seem as if either of the two apprehended suspects will be released.

“Not the way it looks right now, but there are a number of measures being carried out and the situation could easily change,” said the prosecutor to TT.

Police arrested the woman’s 16-year-old brother after finding him outside the apartment, the Aftonbladet newspaper reported on Wednesday.

It has been alleged that the boy killed his sister for disgracing their family by having several boyfriends and trying to build a life for herself away from home, but this has not been confirmed by police.

On Wednesday it became known that the 19-year-old had been feeling threatened for some time and had been in contact with a support group, which was trying to fix her up with sheltered accommodation in another municipality, through the National Board of Health and Welfare (Socialstyrelsen).

The national organization Glöm aldrig Pela och Fadime (GAPF), a group honouring two of Sweden’s most publicized cases of so-called “honour killings” has now reported the municipality handled the threats that the 19-year-old girl was living under.

The group is questioning whether the authorities have been observant enough of the increased threats against the woman before her death.

The municipality also asked the county administrative board (Länsstyrelsen) to review their support measures for women who live under threat.

Do you sweedies really believe that civilized behavior can be like "white washed" on others ?? Or maybe you can baptize them in baltic water and presto good citizens ???

A 39 year old woman who is 'close' to the victim, and who instigated the murder? The mother perhaps?

Far better to have a 19 year old daughter who is viciously stabbed to death by your own son than to live with the thought that your daughter is maybe dating one or two guys that you do not like.

Great work Mom!

Men are blamed for the patriarchal structuring that defines and limits women's place within society, but it seems that women are quite guilty as well since it's so often women themselves who continually patrol and enforce codes of "appropriate" behavior among other women especially. I hate this. For the life of me, I have never understood how anyone could care who consenting adults date/sleep with, much less feel/act violently against adults who date outside some totally fabricated code of conduct. Humans are insane.

Fully agree.

But on the subject of the Patriarchical terrorism of women, there still may be a 5% chance that good old Dad and Mom agreed that the son would throw Mom under the bus if he was caught, to lessen the son's meager sentence of a few months of counselling, so that the son and Dad would be rapidily reunited again. This would be the 'women are expendable' form of patriachal terrorism.

I could be wrong of course but hard for me to imagine that this entire murder conspiracy was hatched between mom and son, with father unaware and unsupportive.

Would be good if there were enough funds available so that women who have been threatened with death or violence (a highly criminal act, when the threat is credible) can force the would-be murderous brothers, fathers, cousins to wear ankle bracelets that warn her by SMS when the assassins are less than 1 km from where she is, so that she can escape or call friends or arm herself.

I'm not even going to post anything because you're all thinking what we are all thinking. I hope the people of Sweden throw out all of the politicians that are responsible for letting these things happen over the last decade.

the family who might have killed her are to be blamed, but why wont the social service be also blamed ? what will happen to the social services ?
10:06 April 27, 2012 by Reason abd Realism
#6 Agree.

Social services should have relocated her immediately, maybe even to a hotel until they find an apartment, in some other ciy far away from these murderous vommit bags.

Credible death threats (text messages, recorded phone calls, third party eyewitness testimony) should also result in instant expulsion from Sweden. A woman withdrew a court case against her brother a few months ago, even though they had piles of credible evidence, when it was revealted that all he would get would be a few months in jail, if convicted.

Anything less than zero tolerance will send a message that murdering family members is perfectly okay as far as the Swedish government is concerned.

"close to the victim" What kind of idiotic pussyfooting is this?

Why can't The Local just state the facts:

Victim: Maria Barin Ayin

Perpetrator: Reber, her kid brother

Instigator: Viktoria, her very own mother

Yep, the signs of progress are all around - like Egypt is considering passing laws that.'

1. permit necrophilia

2. lower the age of marriage for girls to 14

3. make female genital mutilation mandatory.

An Egyptian journalist blasted this trend and said " has the Islamic trend reached that far." It really is time for tolerance to be a 2-way street. But clearly the 'old ways' refuse to go away, even when prosperity and contentment are offered in a new life.

So it's time for western societies to stop hiding behind 'politically correct' methodologies. There is nothing wrong with condemning barbaric behaviour when it presents itself in our society. If that behaviour is also a 'tradition' (whether religious or cultural) there is also nothing wrong with educating to a higher standard of humanity.

Perhaps, when we take these people in from the cold, we should just let the young girls stay and humanely dispose of the remainder. Call it prophyllaxis.
