REFLECTIONS OF A TWITTER VIRGIN…. »
"I confess to having been reluctant to embrace Twitter. But I confess myself a bit of a convert. The great TV critic Clive James once said about “Dallas”, “I came to mock but I stayed to pray”. I wouldn’t go that far, but I have found my first two weeks on Twitter (@hmapauljohnston) both fun and informative. It’s been..." READ »

Let's remember that those ferries travel every day between Karlskrona and Gdynia. A few years ago in the Karlskrona Port, the ferry had accidentally made the walkway collapse. The metal structure fell on a fuel tank. That was way more dangerous than what happened here.
These kinds of accidents happen. Considering the intense traffic, it's not unexpected.
Coming back to Gothenburg one night from Denmark at NewYrs 06, I was standing rear deck that night and with all windows iced up for others not able to see out, we missed striking a freighter broadside by only a few feet.
As the freighter crossed our path, I was sure it was the end.
We should have been no closer than 1/ 4 mile near it.
I ran inside, and all the doors to the upper deck were locked to try to notify crew. I was so pissed now looking for girlfriend and family to see they were simply having fun, never aware of what almost happened.
All of us surely would of perished in the night if we had cut the freighter in half at the high speed we were going.
Let alone all the cars & loaded semi's below would have sunk us for sure instantly shifting forward.
What was loaded on the freighter, fuel?
If one could look up the navigation GPS map trails of that night, it would be on CNN for a week.
Just know, those of you aboard that night, have no clue you're a living ghost.
I got into a serious argument with the one of the Captains of these ferries not long ago in back & forth emails.
When you board these vessels, keep a close watch, and record everything, including the navigation screen currently showing route with radar loop of other ships.
If you reply as a current Captain, I'll fight this and any statement made by me with a multi million suit. Try Me.
I don't Fk around when it comes to public safety, and the crew is asleep with ship left on auto pilot in a crowed seaport of other drunks at the wheel.
There is no excuse for any incident period regardless how minor.
