An out of work 26-year-old from eastern Sweden who threatened to cut off a business owner's fingers after being denied a job is facing criminal charges for the violent threat.

The incident took place after the 26-year-old man's unsuccessful attempt to land a job at a small business owned by a man in Hudiksvall in eastern Sweden, the local Hudiksvall Tidning newspaper reported.

Following the failed job interview attempt, the 26-year-old became enraged and drove over to the business owner's home, equipped with a bag containing a pair of pliers, an iron pipe, a hunting knife, and a cutting board.

Upon arrival, the scorned job seeker first threatened to kill the man and his family.

He then told the shocked business owner he would to cut off his fingers if he wasn't offered a job.

The frightened business owner finally relented to the 26-year-old's demands, and agreed to offer him a job with the company.

He also agreed to give his car to the 26-year-old, even signing an ownership transfer certificate.

A few days later, however, the business owner reported the incident to police, who promptly arrested the 26-year-old.

According to the paper, police have received reports that the 26-year-old threatened three other people in Hudiksvall.

He is now facing charges for blackmail, assault, making illegal threats, and obstruction of justice.

What only in Sweden? the victim going to the police?

The 'only in Sweden' part might sadly be revealed during sentencing. A woman who was given a series of well documented and very serious death threats by email and text messages by her own brother ('honour' related death sentence if she continued to date some guy who the family did not approve of) decided to withdraw her accusation when it was revealed that, even if convicted, her putrid brother would only get a few months in jail, rather than deportation or any sort of real disincentive to carry on with the death threats, or the murder itself.

I hope this job seeking maniac gets 10 years or more, but I will be shocked if he gets anything near that.

I understand you indirectly asking for more safety through harder punishments..

Not sure how much it helps if i compare with my own country..

But for Sweden i would say the daily safety feeling makes any violent story becomes a national shock...

When in most of european country only, the daily violence make the same story not even making it in the news... to talk only about europe ..

you see what you don't have and forget what you have

Please don't make Sweden look like a violent country, its one of the safest in the world..

---Please don't make Sweden look like a violent country, its one of the safest in the world..---

If being the rape capital of Europe make Sweden safe then my name is Ingemar Stenmark.

If we are all being real about what the word, 'safe' means then we all know that Sweden used to be a lot more safe than it is today. Then again, that was 20+ years ago...before....the invasion of......well, you know..

I am not making Sweden look like a violent country, I am simply pointing out that Sweden creates no serious disincentive to commit violent crime.

A very rare exception was the 18 year sentence for a knife murder reported a few days ago, but often murderes here get only a couple of years, and insultingly low fines to pay to the family of the victim.

Desperate times.. Is the job market in Hudiksval so bad??

Plain logic. He knows he will get housed, and fed, with unlimited Cable TV for years if he simply threatens to kill someone, at the taxpayers expense.

The concept of making him do some useful work while behind bars, to pay back his debt to society, is utterly unthinkable here in Sweden, where violent criminals can do no wrong in the eyes of the state.

"Only in Sweden" is an expression used by ignorants when they don't have anything to contribute but want to see their handle in a comments thread.

I've never tried that interview technique before.

Re 11, See http://affes.wordpress.com/

These graphs were posted elsewhere, but I believe this blog is the original source. At this time, I have not read the entire post, nor do I understand all the Swedish in the post. I can't say that the information (or the blog in general) is well documented, unbiased, (un)offensive, etc.

Thx, libertarianism- There are REEMS of statistics out there which prove my point. http://avpixlat.info/2012/07/15/utlanningar-overrepresenterade-pa-landets-fangelser/

It is hard to believe that this isn't common knowledge already.
