Chainsaw massacre averted in southern Sweden

Peace has returned to the small community of Klippan in southern Sweden after a 25-year fired up his chainsaw and chased unsuspecting passers-by down the street last weekend, threatening to kill them.

Police arrived on the scene shortly after a man phoned at 1 o'clock in the morning last Sunday to say he and several others were being pursued down the main street, local newspaper Helsingborgs Dagblad reports.

With his chainsaw running, the 25-year-old uttered death threats as he barreled along Storgatan in pursuit of his prey. He also took the opportunity to slash branches off trees in central Klippan, a town of 8,000 people located 90 kilometres north of Malmö.

The chainsaw wielder's would-be victims managed to keep at a safe distance from their aggressor throughout.
