"Drastic measures" to attract male nursery teachers
A Councillor in Malmö made the case this week for separate treatment of male nursery teachers - saying they should jump the queue when looking for a job, reported Sydvenskan on Sunday.
Apparently less than 7 per cent of nursery teachers in Malmö are men and the council needs "drastic measures" to improve the ratio.
But whether or not positive discrimination is a good solution is the source of some debate, explained Sydsvenskan.
"We're not going to solve the problem by treating people differently. The problem isn't that men have difficulties getting a job as nursery teachers, the problem is that there aren't enough men studying in that field", said Roine Selind from the teacher’s authority committee in Malmö.
