Roxette star returns to stage

Roxette star Marie Fredriksson has made a surprise return to the stage, three years after being diagnosed with a tumour in the back of her head.

Fredriksson’s triumphant comeback took place at an Aids benefit in Stockholm on Sunday night. The Roxette star’s name had not appeared on publicity material for the “Kick Aids Out” event at fashionable nightclub Café Opera.

Having been helped up on to the stage by husband Mikael Bolyos, Fredriksson sang Aretha Franklin’s I Never Loved a Man Like You.

“I feel really good tonight – now I'm going to get a large beer," she told Aftonbladet after her performance.

Fredriksson, who formed Roxette with fellow Swede Per Gessle, was diagnosed with cancer in 2002. She was given the all-clear in the autumn.

Gessle told reporters in London last week that he was open to the idea of a Roxette comeback, but that "it all depends on Marie".
