Second man arrested over 1998 murder

A second man has been arrested for the murder of an 18-year-old woman in southern Sweden in 1998, the prosecutor heading the case said on Thursday.

The man, age 28, was arrested Wednesday night and is linked to the man who was arrested earlier this week and is also suspected of the woman’s death, prosecutor Tord Josefsson told The Local.

The 29-year-old suspect taken Monday for the murder of Julia Oltenau in Höganäs, in 1998, was remanded by Helsingborg district court on Thursday on suspicion of murder.

During the past few days, the man was interrogated by police several times. The information from those interviewed led to the decision by the prosecutor to move forward in the case against the detained suspect.

When asked if there was forensic evidence against the man, Josefsson replied: “there is property that is being analyzed by government criminal forensic laboratories”

He would not comment further on possible evidence.

Both detainees are suspected of murdering 18-year-old Julia Oltenau from Höganäs, in December of 1998.

Oltenau was attacked on her way home from buying bread one night in early December. She was found in a garden a short time after and died from her injuries.
