The man, who was with two friends, had climbed up on one of the bridge supports and swung over the water on a rope that had been tied to the bridge. He was reported by witnesses to have fallen on his belly and disappeared under the water.

The rescuse services sent out divers, who after about one hour of searching found him nearby, under the water and lifeless. He was taken to hospital nearby, but could not be saved. Several people at the nearby bathing spot on the island of Långholmen witnessed the accident. The man's two friends were later given support at the hospital.

It is common at the Långholmen bathing spot for people to use a rope attached at a height of 7-10 metres to swing out and jump in the water.
