No Swedish ministers are making official visits to Thailand after the military coup in September, reported Aftonbladet.
“As long as the state of emergency remains in place, the EU is refraining from all political contact. And visiting minister could be perceived as that,” said foreign minister Carl Bildt to the newspaper.
But Thailand’s ambassador to Sweden, Apichart Chinwanno, expressed surprise at the decision. A trip to Thailand is the best way to help the country after the tsunami which struck its shores almost two years ago.
“I would be delighted if Anders Borg changed his mind,” he said to Aftonbladet.
