Road collapses in landslide

Parts of a major road in western Sweden have collapsed in a landslide. The accident happened on the E6 near Småröd, just south of Munkedal just before 8pm on Wednesday. Several cars are reported to have been dragged off the road in the incident, according to emergency services.

Around 200 metres of roadway collapsed in the mudslide. According to emergency call centre SOS Alarm at 8pm on Wednesday, rescuers were reporting that four cars were on the southern lane, with six cars on the northern lane.

The accident happened on a two-lane stretch of the E6.

Mats Johansson, duty commander at Uddevalla emergency services, said the landslide was due to the recent torrential rainfall in the area.
