A 20-year-old man was shot dead in Gothenburg on Saturday. He was found lying on a football pitch in Gårdsten in the north-east of the city.

Police have opted not to reveal whether they have identified any suspects for the attack.

"We have begun a preliminary murder investigation. That is our only comment," said police spokesman Anders Börjesson.

Police have also begun a forensic examination of the murder scene.

A number of media reports suggest that police attention has been directed towards an apartment in a nearby residential area.

Expressen and Aftonbladet both report that the shooting incident was connected to a gang fight in the area last week, in which a 15-year old was stabbed and seriously injured.
