A man has been arrested in Stockholm on suspicion of the manslaughter of his six-day-old baby.

"He is in detention, and we can confirm it is the father," said Bengt Kihlberg of Stockholm police on Friday morning.

A warrant was put out for the man's arrest after suspicions were aroused on Thursday.

The baby was dead on arrival at Stockholm's Karolinksa University Hospital at 6pm on Thursday, according to police spokesman Björn Engström. He would not reveal the nature of the child's injuries.

A number of the baby's relatives have been questioned by police, Engström said.

No other details of the case are being revealed, other than that the man lives in the western suburbs of Stockholm.
