The number of Swedes who make phone calls over the internet has increased markedly, according to new figures from telecoms regulator PTS.

At the end of 2006 Swedes there were 410,000 subscriptions for IP-telephony in Sweden, compared with 219,500 one year earlier, a rise of 87 percent.

The report also showed that mobile telephony was gaining customers at the expense of fixed-line telephony, that traffic in the 3G network had doubled since 2005 and that the proportion of internet users subscribing to broadband was continuing to rise.
