Scandinavian media giant Schibsted has become the majority owner in the web site Tv.nu, which is said to be Sweden's most popular online television guide.

Schibsted bought 51 percent of the shares in the holding company TVNU Sweden AB from its founder Thomas Meivert and has an option to buy the rest of the company.

"The site will be a strong complement to Aftonbladet.se and SvD.se, but also to many other services within Schibsted," wrote the Norwegian company in a press statement.

Tv.nu was launched in 2000 and according to its own figures has up to 450,000 unique visitors a week.
