Fireman injured in suspected arson attack

Fourteen people were evacuated from a wooden building in Norrtälje after it caught fire early on Friday morning. A fireman was taken to hospital suffering from smoke inhalation.

“We have begun an investigation into possible arson,” a police spokesman told Svenska Dagbladet.

The emergency services were called to the scene at around 3.30 on Friday morning. It took 30 fire officers almost six hours to put out the blaze in the two storey building housing shops and apartments.

Twelve of the 14 people who were evacuated were taken to relatives or friends and an elderly couple were put up in a nearby hotel.
