Couple 'ordered burglary of their own home'

A couple in Uppsala is suspected of ordering a break-in into their own home, with the aim of making a large claim on their insurance. Several people are now being prosecuted over the alleged scam, according to Sveriges Radio.

The couple claimed 800,000 kronor from their insurance company after the break-in, during which electrical goods and expensive wine was taken.

Police became suspicious, however, when it became clear that those who had carried out the 'burglary' had known exactly where to find the burglar alarm and had been able to deactivate it quickly. It also became clear that the house's owner was acquainted with the four thieves.
