Explosive device detonates in Malmö

Residents of an apartment block on Finlandsgatan in Malmö were awoken shortly before 3am on Tuesday by a powerful explosion.

A device had been placed under a balcony on the first floor of the four-storey building. Nobody is reported to have been injured. The building was however seriously damaged.

"We suspect that somebody placed an explosive device under a balcony," police spokesman Martin Carlsson told Sydsvenskan.

The tenant in the apartment nearest to the explosion was not at home at the time.

Police are not aware of any specific threats against any individuals living in the building, Sydsvenskan reports.
