Franzén to miss Stanley Cup opener

Swedish center Johan Franzén, the leading scorer in the National Hockey League playoffs, will miss Saturday's opening game of the Stanley Cup Finals for Detroit with concussion symptoms.

After practicing with the Red Wings on Friday, Franzén said he felt good but that he had not been medically cleared to play when Detroit will face Pittsburgh to start the best-of-seven championship series.

"I'm not playing," Franzén said. "I'm doing more checkups and just waiting for the doctor to clear me. I'm feeling good."

Franzén has scored 12 goals in the playoffs but has not played since the opening game of the semi-finals, when the Red Wings eliminated Dallas in six games.
