This is a decline from the May estimate of 31,000 in Sweden this year and 28,000 next year. The primary reason behind the adjustment is that the number of applicants from Somalia is no longer increasing at the same pace as before, the agency wrote.

The change means that the agency will have better conditions to continue efforts to shorten the waiting times for applicants. The average processing time is currently four and a half months, the shortest in 20 years.

At the same time, the agency also lowered its forecast for unaccompanied children by 400 to 2,400. However, more are expected this year and the need for places remains high. At mid-year, over 450 children were still waiting to be received in a municipality.

Story continues below…

The forecast for the number of cases relating to work permits has increased. The agency estimates that it needs a significant cash injection for next year, 312 million kronor ($42.68 million) more than the government's current proposals.

Becuse of internal migration, several small towns in Sweden are facing certain decay and disappearance. I think Sweden should sign immigrants to settle in those towns as temporary residents and contribute to the economy of those areas. They too can enjoy persecution free environment. Relocating to another place should be considered as violation of the agreement that could invoke their return to their original home regardless of the security situation of their home country. They should also return when their country becomes stable. The places they leave can be temporary filled by people with problematic country. This way the number of imigrants in Sweden will be the same!

"I think Sweden should sign immigrants to settle in those towns as temporary residents and contribute to the economy of those areas. "

Granting residence to asylum seekers, usually costs a lot of money. Low skilled, non literate immigrants usually cause disruption and crime in the small communities they settle in.

"unaccompanied children" is usually a scam, planned by families in the middle east, who would otherwise have bad prospects of getting asylum granted if travelling as a family.

Nearly 30.000 asylum applicants is a very large figure, considering the size of sweden, and compared to other european nations.

It is no doubt rumored that Sweden has a high asylum acceptance rate.

The swedish taxpayers are left with paying the bill, and the next generation of swedes can ponder upon the fact, that the politicians of today have decided to displace swedes with foreigners at an alarming high rate.

Follow Denmark's immigration policies now before doing anything else.

Completely ridiculous. Sweden is bankrupting itself economically, culturally and socially. Get a clue from your Danish neighbors!!!

about fukin right the muslims are stopped from sweden/europe. if it's so good just stay where you came from. they bring only misery. terrorism, honor murder, rape, suicide bombings and so on. this is not compatible with the swedish culture.

you try and get asylum in pakistan - what a joke

@Audrian: You just have all the answers, don't you. "They should also return when their country becomes stable. The places they leave can be temporary filled by people with problematic country."

This way the immigrants will not have any incentive to adjust or learn Swedish, if they know they are returning home. We may just as well set up camps for them in countries neighboring to their country of origin. The world is changing and nothing will be status quo. I bet the Romans also believed that they could keep the Barbarians out of the Roman empire. The pressure got to large from immigrants who had come to live within and the Roman empire crumbled.

While i agree that Sweden should take a look at its policies regarding asylum seekers, we can not just look at Denmark's immigration policies and adopt them here. Denmark as a smaller geographical location must enforce much more stringent measures. As for making Sweden a revolving door where immigrants simply bide their time until their country of origin is more stable, then happily return home, well that's never going to work and we all know it.

So what is the solution? I have no idea, but certainly a reduction in the number of asylum seekers granted entry into the country is called for. We simply do not have the infrastructure, manpower or economic support required when faced with the current numbers, (We are not Norway after all).

As for Muslims bringing only misery. terrorism, honor murder, rape, suicide bombings etc as stated by jackx123, all I can say is jackx123 stop being a racist tool. Having met a number of Muslims in Sweden, I can say that none have tried to make me miserable, terrorize me, honor murder, rape or suicide bomb me. What they have done, is share food with me, good intelligent conversation, and friendship. Simply lumping the worlds horrors into one basket and labeling it Muslim is just plain stupid.

Ohoho, what a fascist and racist comments, now we can see why Swedish stole gate table from Auschwitz but not someone else. Only in Stockholm people are normal, the rest of Sweden is full of people who are living in the time of WWII ideas. People should settle to live where they want, let them to get job, and government should not mix in it. If you don't give job because of nationality and color of skin, don't cry about criminality which is done by immigrants (although Swedish people are still majority in the prison, so, it is again racist blabla about immigrant's criminality).

And what was latest news? Swedish with cocaine? c,c,c...

People who don't like immigrants should never go out from Sweden. Don't be surprised if someone verbally attack you just because you are from Sweden, if you do it with immigrants, someone should do it with you.

Do not allow Muslim imigrants. September 11, 1683. Islam was defeated by the King of Poland at the gates of Vienna. Osama again resumed the fight on September 11, 2001. Unlike other religions, Islam expands to impose its government. Islam is a political, social, and religious system similar to Nazism and Communism - the end justifies the means. They only recognize the law of Mohammed/Allah. They'll keep quiet and lie about their intentions until they have control. There have been some who have said that during and after the next great war with Islam, our recent past political leaders should be tried for treason for promoting Islam as a religion of peace, and trying to negotiate with Moslems when Islamic beliefs do not allow for peace treaties. No mosques.
