Cartoons made Scandinavia terror threat 'much bigger': experts

The exposure last week of a plot to massacre staff at a Danish newspaper is, according to experts, merely "business as usual" in once tranquil Scandinavia five years after a crisis over cartoons of Prophet Muhammad began.

"The result of the cartoon crisis has been that we went from having a very, very low threat level to a much bigger threat level," explained Danish terrorism expert Lars Erslev Andersen.

Magnus Ranstorp at the Swedish National Defence College agreed, describing attack plots by Islamic extremists as "business as usual in Denmark."

"They live with terrorism. They know there are extremists. They know they are the focus," he told Swedish public broadcaster SVT.

Once renowned for their virtually non-existent crime rates, Denmark and its Scandinavian neighbours Sweden and Norway have recently seen a string of thwarted attacks and unraveled plots by Islamic extremists.

Just weeks after Sweden's first ever suicide bombing, which narrowly missed wreaking carnage among Christmas shoppers, five men were arrested Wednesday for hatching what Danish officials called a plan to "kill as many people as possible" at the Copenhagen offices of the Jyllands-Posten daily.

The paper published in September 2005 a dozen cartoons of the Muslim prophet, triggering violent and sometimes deadly protests around the world.

The controversial drawings were originally printed as part of a debate about self-censorship and freedom of expression after no one could be found to illustrate a book about Muhammad amid fears drawings of the prophet -- prohibited by Islam -- would provoke retaliation.

After Danish police discovered a plot to assassinate one of the cartoonists, Kurt Westergaard, at least 17 Danish dailies reprinted his drawing featuring the prophet wearing a turban shaped like a bomb with a lit fuse in February 2008, reigniting anger among many Muslims.

A month later, a voice message purported to be from al-Qaeda leader Osama bin Laden warned that publishing the "insulting drawings" was worse than Western forces killing Muslim women and children and that the "reckoning for it will be more severe."

"What the cartoons did was make Jyllands-Posten, Denmark and really all of Scandinavia visible and a target for Islamic extremists," explained Wilhelm Agrell, an intelligence analysis professor at Lund University in southern Sweden.

The Scandinavian countries' participation in NATO-led forces in Afghanistan and Denmark's role as an eager ally in the US 'war on terror' -- with around 500 troops stationed in Iraq until 2007 -- also made the countries more visible to extremists.

Before 2003, "there would really have been no point for (Islamic extremists) to attack the Scandinavian countries ... but through developments they have become targets," Agrell told AFP.

In the past year alone, there have been four failed attacks in Denmark, including a Somali man who tried to kill Westergaard with an axe and a Chechen man who was arrested after accidently setting off a package bomb destined for the Jyllands-Posten offices.

David Headley, who helped plan the 2008 Mumbai massacre, had also been planning an attack on the paper, and according to reports may have had links to this week's thwarted attack.

One of three men arrested in Norway in September suspected of plotting attacks said the trio planned to target the Danish daily.

Suicide bomber Taimour Abdelwahab, who killed only himself in Stockholm on December 11, meanwhile made no reference to the Danish cartoons in a message sent out shortly before the blast, but he did mention Lars Vilks.

Story continues below…

The Swedish artist, who provoked outrage with a 2007 drawing of Muhammad as a dog, has this year faced several assassination plots, the fire-bombing of his house and was head-butted while giving a university lecture.

Following this week's foiled attack, experts stressed there was no established connection between the attempts across the region and insisted the threat level in Scandinavia was no worse than elsewhere.

"If you look at Germany, the Netherlands, France, Britain ... my impression is that the Scandinavian countries are not an exception to the overall situation in Europe, but rather that they have moved up (the threat scale) to be part of the general pattern we're seeing everywhere," Agrell said.

And as elsewhere, the possibility of averting all future attacks is slim.

"These attacks are hard to spot," he added, lamenting that "sooner or later, one will succeed, from the perpetrator's perspective."

It is true the terrorist did not mention the cartoons. But he DID mention Swedish participation in the ockupation of Afghanistan as reason for the terrorist attack on Sweden. The Swedish participation has cost Swedish tax payers enormous amounts of money and in return the taxpayers are now afraid to go out on the streets. Great deal. Bring 'em home!

@Lars- Great idea, let the murders and terrorists know that they caan force us to do things. I'll take a triple extra lage prayer blanket for myself and an extra small Birkah for my girlfried, and by the way when does the Iman take away the children to the new Swedish Public Madras System.

To the US, Denmark, Norway, Sweden,Poland and Great Britain spend whatever you have to to keep this death cult out of my life. Take as much time as you need to beat these cave dwellers into the sand. I am a Proud Infadel!

Thanks to ALL allied troop.

these losers should all blow themselves up. but alone! we don't need them in this world at all. our grandparents fought and died for democracy and freedom of expression. now, to let a handful of lunatics, homophobes religious fanatics threaten and scare us is just ridiculous.

and lara, if you care about women in other parts of the world, like say afghanistan, then you should allow them to at least try to live as freely as you do.

The cartoons actually did the world a service. Islam dropped its veil so to speak and the world got a good look at its ugly irrationality and the 'winning through intimidation' strategy it seems to favor.

It's terrorism without the bombs. And it seems to be working against your alleged 'experts'.
23:39 January 3, 2011 by Swedesmith
What's next...a ban on cartoons? Half the time, that's the only section of the newspaper that makes any sense.
07:25 January 4, 2011 by wenddiver
Maybe we should stop trying to chase the talliban down and just pass out Playboy magazine, lingerie, cigarettes, Rock Music and canned beer to their chidren while they continue to fight. Teach their youth the concept of teenagers and they will be too busy dealing with their children to worry about us. On the good side we all seem awake to the threat, since they stepped forward.. Start inviting their teenagers over for Whiskey night and dancing, later when they hate the Talliban we can pay them for every Talliban Scalp they bring in.

Greatings Infidels...

I will be having some T-shirts made up with a BIG silkscreen image of this cartoon, and I will make sure I wear it when I visit their part of town.

And there is NOTHING they can do about it : )

I will also be having some stickers made up in the style of the neighborhood watch program decals, "Muslim Watch... We Report All Suspicious Activity To The Authorities" lol

The days of islamic terror are coming to a screaching halt !

Happy Chanukah : )

Swedish and Danish based terrorists pose a major threat to the rest of the world; it's no suprise they take a shot at Scandinavia every now and then too.

Western nations are beginning to regard Sweden as the sick man of Europe; a terrorist breeding ground, unable to prevent it's immigrant population from turning bad.

The failed policies that led to this situation were implemented by successive Social Democratic governments over the past thirty years. It's not only Swedes that pay the price of their stupidity though; Sweden's foulest export shatters lives in market places, railway stations and mosques all across the world.
15:20 January 4, 2011 by Tjejen
Personally, I don't buy into the whole "freedom of expression" crap. If that was really the case why don't they draw a bunch of obscene pictures of Jesus or other prominent figures in other religions also???

I firmly believe in the right to express your opinion but also believe that there are much better and less tacky ways of showing it.
16:02 January 4, 2011 by Querist
^^^ but there ARE numerous examples of artwork (that may be deemed offensive) of Jesus Christ....

It's just that the 'offended' Christians don't go out and Blow Stuff Up!

They work within 'the system' .....they protest, they boycot or they sue the bastards!!!!

Welcome to Western Civilization 101!

We wouldn't have Muslim jihad terror threats if we didn't invite a hostile army of Muslim jihad terrorists to come live among us now, would we?
19:53 January 4, 2011 by Puge Henis
Religion of peace - yep, and Michael vicks is an animal lover.

These people come to our lands and we should change to their views, isnt that nice?

They say we should be tolerant and have a mosque at ground zero - lets be more tolerant and have a gay bar at the side, shall we?

Or are we supposed to only be tolerant to one point of view?

There are already a bunch of countries that subscribe to their point of view... why cant these idiots go there where everyone think like them? Nope, they want to kill everyone who does not think like them or does not want to live with them in the stoneage.

Religion of peace and tolerance indeed.
01:49 January 5, 2011 by jackx123
Puge your suggestion to have a gay bar is excellent. Why not have a synagogue and a church as well in the name of equality.

I'd personally see a raving nightclub there to. Why? Because it is part of western culture.
12:18 January 5, 2011 by Elias06
the guy who blew himself in stockholm is a sycho , a criminal, he doesnt represent Islam or Muslims..unfortunatly in most people's minds it does, this will rise racism and those muslims who have nothing to do with jihad and terrorism will pay...its sad but its like that not only in sweden
13:17 January 5, 2011 by pjtaipale
I think the headline is wrong.

Cartoons did not make terror threats bigger. They did not create the threat at all. They simply woke up something that was waiting to be woken up. Without cartoons, something else would have done it.

I think it was better that we see it coming sooner, rather than later.
13:30 January 5, 2011 by qed16
What we really need are 10,000 Lars Vilks to step up and show them that they will not subjugate our freedoms to the will of their cult...
13:36 January 5, 2011 by landofthesheeple
What does Racism have to do with religion?

Your comments prove my point of the insurgents. Perhaps Your comment should be forwarded to Sapo, they may have some questions on Your intentions of punishment, You need to be Very clear on exactly what You mean, as any detective would caution You on...

The Cartoons are a great point to show artistic expresion and freedom of the press, and are very funny : ) lol

Let us know when the t-shirts will be ready!!!

I am not sure if sharing views in this way are doing any good to anyone. What are we tying to prove and to whom ? Once anyone shares a view, he or she should have the patience and courage to listen to other view points.

There are variety of controversial issues which is good for debate but it spreads hatred elsewhere if not handled with care.It is good to have diagreement but why get personal.

The only common factor i noticed is everyone condemns terrorism.Shouldn't we feel good about it.

Cartoons made Scandinavia terror threat 'much bigger' - YES ITS TRUE TO SOME EXTENT

Whether it should be happening - NO

Are the reasons given to defend such coward act by extremist be acceptable to any human being - NO

Thats a separate debate on whether freedom of speech supports suck kinds of art work which hurts a section of society - I understand that artist are well respected folks and should showcase some responsibility in the present context of the world. The dynamics of the world has changed post 9/11 !

Its not about right or wrong but understanding the impact of ones act before commiting especially for the ones in media or public figures.
17:46 January 5, 2011 by KungsholmenGuy
I am not pro-Islam in any way, but no one ever complains that the law that prevents you from talking about bombs in an airport is a violation of your freedom of expression. Likewise it is not all that difficult for us to refrain from drawing cartoons about Mohammed.

However what I would like to see is: more frequent statements by moderate muslim leaders that assassinations for cartoons are inappropriate. Ban the cartoonists from visiting your nation, and/or have (as Iran did) holocaust cartoon contest in retaliation. Please fight cartoons with cartoons, not death sentences.
00:18 January 6, 2011 by Chickybee
Swedes are waking up to the reality of growing Islamisation but only because of actual terror incidents in Sweden.
13:48 January 6, 2011 by DMEricson
If you didn't allow Muslims into your country you wouldn't have this problem. And a bunch of other problems.
22:43 January 6, 2011 by cowboykodp

If the Germans didn't allow Jews in Germany, the Holocaust would have never happened.

Do you people know why there are not more people arguing with you from the other side of the isle? Who represent 90% of people?

That is because they have lives, Jobs and brains. So don't be so excited that you are 'Outnumbering" them.

Birds of a feather flock together.

Your point is spot on. KUDOS.
01:32 January 7, 2011 by Njal

"If the Germans didn't allow Jews in Germany, the Holocaust would have never happened."

-this is not a good comparison to make cowboy, Jews weren't blowing things up, nor are the Swedes 'Germans' afflicting a persecuted minority. When you blurt out the first thing that pops into your head, you'll end up sounding stupid and confuse the issue, 'par for course' I guess.
10:24 January 7, 2011 by cowboykodp

I was waiting for someone to respond exactly as you did. I am not surprised its you.

Now, to your point. Google some German propaganda used against the Jews in the 30's and 40's. You will find very similar lies used against them as your clan are now using against the Muslims.

If you have a hard time finding some sites, just let me know and I will guide you.

Who is feeling stupid now??
12:09 January 7, 2011 by Nemesis
Cartoons do not creat terrorism.

A twisted, malcontented mindset, that is led by the nose by manipulative, rich saudi's, is what causes islamic terrorism.
12:55 January 7, 2011 by Boyfriend
The Cartoons turned an innocent persons into a violent person.

I wonder if these boys who were going to kill the cartoonist had no criminal records in the past ? If they had no bad record in 10 8 years living in Europe then we should blame the cartoonists for turning an innocents into extremists and this is how you give a birth to an extremists .
13:21 January 7, 2011 by jackx123
next in line is goofy, mickey, donald and the gang. i'm sure the mussies find a reason to start their jihad towards disney too
18:00 January 7, 2011 by Njal

- Could you be more specific? What sites exactly are you referring to? Are you suggesting that the Swedish State had something to do with the bombing?

It's just that nothing that you have written is relevant, nor is some general reference to some nebulous propoganda campaign used by the Germans in the forties 'proof' of anything.

"Now, to your point."

- it was in fact, originally your point.

Feeling confused today cowboy? Did your horse throw you last night, resulting in concussion?
22:14 January 7, 2011 by cowboykodp

My 5 year old niece would understand my reference to the German Propaganda.

I guess my desire to illustrate a reality to you and bring you into the light is in vain.

Its really not your fault, it must be an inbreeding issue at your trailer park community.

Oh well.
22:38 January 7, 2011 by Njal

"My 5 year old niece would understand my reference to the German Propaganda."

- then go pester her, stop wasting everyone's time here.

"I guess my desire to illustrate a reality to you and bring you into the light is in vain."

- you've illustrated nothing and shown a desire for nothing but to revert to insults without explaining what you meant in your earlier posts, these are the tactics of a frustrated child. Perhaps you think yourself subtle, but you'd be better off getting your 5 yr old niece explaining to us what you meant.

"Its really not your fault"

- correct, you have not even attempted to expain what you meant in earlier posts, thereby stopping the possibility for intelligent debate. You do however use insults to try and make your point, and have to be continually reminded to stay on topic before your desire to vent 'righteous anger' and generalizations, takes control of you. To date all those who have attempted to reason with you, have failed.

They would have had an easier time trying to find the second side of a mobius strip.
00:37 January 8, 2011 by Truth_Teller
The Government's attempt to bring uneducated, culturally opposite people from various Muslim countries to live and be a part of society in a knowledge based economy like Sweden sounds like some sort of misguided social experiment from a novel, the fact that it was done, and now there is surprise at a rise in crime and extremism goes against all common sense.

This could have been predicted by the above mentioned 5 year old.

The Jihad started long before cartoons, Guantanamo, etc.

The Moslem and Arab cartoons depicting the most malicious and vindictive pictures against the Jews is wholly reminiscent of Goebbels Nazi Germany and Communitst Soviet Russia aginst the Jewws. there is a very good reason. both countries were allied with the Arab/Moslem nations. The first against the free nation in the second world war and the latter against the same people.

Hence Sweden and Denmark being seen as the enemy of the Moslems. Ask any Arabic sxpeaker for the meaning of "Taqiyya." It meeans deception and lies used to advance the Islamic assault, conquest and subjugation of it's enemies. Unfortunately, gullible politicians, journalists and academics have been taken in by their own perceptions, while they ignore the facts.

Europe is in peril. When the Arabs complain and allege malicious lies about anything regarding their enemies. Believe it, they are only practising it themselves or have the inclination to do so.

The "Warfare" will only end if the Moslems win their promise to take over the world, or the west decides enough is enough and really hit back hard. Unfortunately, after the 1973 Yom Kippur War, saudi Arabia and the rest of these oil producing nations blackmailed the West. It was either you support us against Little Satin Israel (later Greater Satin, the USA) and obtain oil at highly inflated prices, or you go without. simple as that. The west capitulated and that is why the Arabs detest weakness and will take advantage of that situation. In other words, what you sow, so shall you reap.
17:52 January 8, 2011 by noisyneighbour
It could be that the bomber had a beef with Sweden cooperation on the criminal war on terror: Afganistan occupation, rendition.... One can see his point, even if not agree with his actions, for we citizens of democratic countries should make our rulers accountable...

Then again, it could be that the bomber just can't see any differences between Americans, Bristish, Swedes... It is a bit like Bush bombing Iraq for something that some Saudis who happened to operate from Afganistan did, for which they may have or may not have good cause. All Arabs are the same to Bush and maybe all white people are the same to this particular Arab...

19:37 January 8, 2011 by engagebrain
The Danish cartoons are pretty mild compared to those published in the Arab world that attack jews.

Also the imans in Denmark circulated cartoons that were not even published in Denmark - a self made self serving crisis.

Every newspaper that supports freedom of speech should print the cartoons.

@ my5cents

Well said!

I had a look at the film, and thought that it was fantastic. The efforts that the 'elite' go to in order to maintain the status quo, and to keep everyone a 'wage-slave' have been their sole concern for at least 100 years, and probably longer than that (religion).

The world definitely needs a new way of looking at life, and the producer of the film, quite correctly in my opinion, makes the claim that a system based on money is essentially a new form of slavery/control.

Apologies to the moderators for going off the topic for a bit.

A right wing nut shot a Jewish Congresswoman in Arizona and killed a Federal judge! I'm Waiting for the media to blame it on 2 Billion Christians and equate the Bible with Mein Kampf..!!
05:05 January 9, 2011 by qed16
@ Poetician

What a stupid remark.

This guy is very likely not going to be referencing bible passages as directly instructing him to kill a politician, the way the Koran explicitly invites the killing of infidels.

Though he could certainly reference Sarah Palin, Glenn Back and other tea party lunatics who've implied that people should be using their "second amendment rights", I imagine... This is a right wing, gun hard-on, anti-government nut problem. Not a religious nut problem.
12:33 January 9, 2011 by motti
go onto the website MEMRI.COM to find out just what the Islamic and arab world are truly saying. unfortunately, politicians, academics and journalists are surprisingly gullible and naive. they believe what they choose to believe bec ause of their own rose tinted outlook on life. The situation in Norway is just as bad, if not worse. their media has become nothing more than a tool for the Islamic world.
14:37 January 9, 2011 by hisham
Islam is out of terror .. The Muslims are often the victim of the terror .. But the vicious racist are worse than the terrorist because they incite hatred against a part of Swedish community.
20:28 January 9, 2011 by motti
Islam is well and truly on the road to continue its quest for world dominance. Sadly, western journalists, politicians and especially academics are so gullible and accept without question anything they are told by the Moslems.

Of course, Saudia Arabia pays US$ billions to its embassies around the world to interfere in the lifestyle of those lands. It pays for the disgusting cartoon hatred of the their enemies, especially the Jews. The Arbs are particularly blood thirsty and they have copie. the worst excesses of

Nazi Germany and Soviet Russia.

Arabia encourages western people to convert, yet, it is forbidden in the Moslem countries, with a death sentence.

They accuse others of wanting to control the world, yet, they themselves, at demonstrations boast that is their own ambition. They complain of the powerful Jewish Lobby. How ridiculous, the Arab/ Oil Lobby has at its disposal, US4 billions to pay for propaganda, lobbying, ensuring the news media is extremely selective as to what is really happrening in the world.

You are continually informed that Islam is a peaceful religion and that is the meaning of Islam. Total rubbish. The word Islam is Arabic for submission. Look around the world. Almost every conflict is due to the Arabs wanting to continue their aim of conquest. It continues to this day. Unfortunately, most western countries have felt sympathy for the poor downtrodden peoples of the east.

MEMRI.com please check it out, as I mentioned above. for those of you, for whatever reason feel sympathetic towards the Arab cause, beware and check this site out. Then consider your options

Unfortunately, most western people do not have the truth spelt out to them, all for the sake of oil.

First, "solh" is the Arabic word for PEACE, NOT 'islam'.

Second, Freedom Of Speech and Thought do NOT cause or exacerbate TERRORISM.

The terrorism "EXPERT", Andersen, is a DHIMMI, a non-Muslim who is so afraid of ISLAM that he has already SURRENDERED to it!

Terrorism in a nation is caused by it permitting restive, ALIEN populations to dwell in it who have NO intention of adopting its mores.

The reason is that Islam simply does NOT uphold what we call "The Law of General Beneficence"; that is, one is NOT to be charitable except to fellow believers.

The unpleasant fact is that Islam simply does NOT teach the Golden Rule!

Jesus' dictum that "whatever you wish that men do to you, do so to them" (Matthew 7:12) appears in virtually EVERY religious tradition on this planet: Christianity, Judaism, Buddhism, Hinduism, Confucianism, ancient Greeks and Romans, Anglo-Saxons, ancient Babylonians, ancient Egyptians, Old Norse, Native Americans, Australian Aborigines, etc.

But, NOT Islam.

The Koran and Hadith make such a SHARP distinction between believers and UNBELIEVERS that there is NO room for ANY commandment of 'General Beneficence'!

"Believers, do not make friends with any men other than your own people. They will spare no pains to corrupt you. They desire nothing but your ruin. Their hatred is clear from what they say, but more violent is the hatred which their breasts conceal". - Koran 3:117.

"Muslims must not take the infidels as friends." - ('Awliah') K. 3:28.

"The worst beasts in Allah's sight are the disbelievers. Exhort the believers to fight. They will win easily, because disbelievers are without intelligence." - K. 8:7-8.

Finally Muslims live by 2 dictae:

1. "Al-walaa wa al-baraa": loyalty and enmity (Arabic); that is, loyalty to fellow Muslims, but enmity (in thought, word and deed) toward non-Muslims.

2 "Bi-la kayf" or, "Bi-la kaifa"- (Arabic) 'accept Islamic practices without asking why or how'.

We in the West need to start going by OUR ancient dictum:

"Islamimus delenda est" (Islam must be destroyed)!

Sorry, but it's actually January, 1939, NOT 2011!

@wenddiver (#4)

Great idea.

So load up those B52s and rain down up Afghanistan the following gifts from the West. The gift box should contain:

1. Nike sneakers

2. Playboy, Penthouse and Hustler mags

3. A few Snoop Dog and Michael Jackson CDs

4. Wii

5. Keg of Guinness

6. Signed Michael Jordan basketball

7. Camel cigarretes (unfiltered)

8. Box of Kanelbullar

It's cheaper than bombs and more effective (in my opinion). Time to "pollute" Islam.
20:16 January 10, 2011 by Nemesis
Cartoons do not give anyone from the judeo-christian-islamic-satanist ideologies a reason or justification to do anything.

If people have an issue with freedom of speech, womens rights, gay rights, disabled rights, childrens rights and complete equality in law, they should not come to Europe. They should swear to uphold all those rights. If they to accept those rights are all valid and claim for any reason they can not uphold those rights, then they should be banned from entering Europe under any circumstances.

All immigrants, regardless of origin should be made to swear to uphold the Charter of Fundamental Rights of the European Union, upon entry to Europe.

If they refuse to swear to uphold those rights over there own culture, religeon or other aspects of there life before entry to Europe, they should be refused entry to Europe, regardless of reason.

@ saab

Good idea. Would probably work.

some commenters lost their tamper and start laying out of Islam and Koran haha .. So petty when the commenter persuade the readers by lies .. but on the other hand, the European people are wise to understand this game and not weak as you describe them.

so hisham, who committed the suicide bombing in stockholm? a muslim or a christian? who were the targets? muslim or christians? when did it happen? during christmas holidays...... a religious swedish holiday.

if this doesn't get into your narrow muslim mind you better leave the country (Sweden) that you seem to hate for what it stands for -CHRISTIANITY and FREEDOM.

Ladies and gentlemen,

a question, please; what about the cartoon translator that was arrested for child pornography for translating a cartoon - I repeat: cartoon - where apparently minors engaged in sexual activities?

In Sweden, yes...
10:24 January 13, 2011 by hisham
Hi Jackx 123 :)

your narrow mined let you think that I'm Muslim haha, actually I'm not and as I experienced that all Muslims except the" sick people" condemn any acts of violence.

You seems have hard to understand JACKi, Muslims love the Christian and they are proud to live in Sweden :)
23:26 January 13, 2011 by Njal

"Muslims love the Christian and they are proud to live in Sweden"

- correction, muslims don't love Christians and are very fortunate to live in Sweden.
02:03 January 14, 2011 by jackx123
hisham or shall i say His Ham. If you are not a mussie then it's even more cause to worry about you health since you obviously have no clue what this cult is all about.

Don't be fooled by the "tolerant" face of Muslims you meet in the Western world today. Islam has historically developed in four stages: 1. Evangelism. 2. Consolidation of power. 3. Revolution 4. Islamic State. Muslims would love to see the West become Islamic states but are only at stage one: Evangelism! Islam has not changed its methods since Muhammad 1400 years ago. Muslims are tolerant, when they are powerless, but this veneer of toleration evaporates when an Islamic state is formed.

The Quran is all about warfare, killing and killing of CHRISTIANS and JEWS. See below citations.

Hadith 1:13-- "I have been ordered by Allah to fight with people till they bear testimony to the fact that there is no God but Allah."

Hadith 1.24 "Narrated Ibn `Umar: Allah's Apostle said: "I have been ordered (by Allah) to fight against the people until they testify that none has the right to be worshipped but Allah and that Muhammad is Allah's Apostle, and offer the prayers"

Hadith 1.25"Narrated Abu Huraira: Allah's Apostle was asked, "What is the best deed?" He replied, "To believe in Allah and His Apostle (Muhammad). The questioner then asked, "What is the next (in goodness)? He replied, "To participate in Jihad (religious fighting) in Allah's Cause."

Hadith 19:4294 "Fight against those who disbelieve in Allah. Make a holy war."

When someone have the guts to speak against Mafia receives death threats, same happen at who speak against Islam.

The big difference is that in the first case we are all agree (except mafia clans) to fight against mafia while in the second one just few people agree to join the fight.

Could someone explain me why?
12:41 January 14, 2011 by IMS
OK Arturio, I will try to explain.

1. The mafia is a criminal organisation. Islam is a peaceful religion which has been high jacked by bad people for their own objectives.

The main crime committed by the Muslim world in my view has been the failure to unanimously and effectively condemn and distance themselves from the terrorist radicals.

You must remember that Muslims are being slaughtered in Afghanistan, Pakistan etc.. daily by these misguided radicals. This is not a war between Islam and the Western world. It is terrorism by misguided, uneducated and hate-driven people against the rest of humanity. My wife is possibly alive today because she missed one of the trains in the London bombing. I can't even imagine how I would have been able to tell our young children that mum was gone forever.

2. The hate-filled scum who wish us all dead feed on and use any so called 'anti Islam' actions by the west to recruit vulnerable, weak-minded individuals to their cause.

If we therefore stand in solidarity with artists and writers who insult Islam (remember, it is not what you see as an insult, it is how the recipient feels about it that matters) then we would inadvertently be helping the radicals with recruitment.

Instead of insulting Islam and endangering the rest of us, why don't these so called artists use their 'so called freedom of speech' to actually target the radicals? By targeting Islam, they are boxing all Muslims together - WHICH IS JUST WHAT THE RADICALS WANT.

So, my point is; yes we should all stand against terrorism. But we do not need to confuse that with victimising a religion and its people. That just makes the cycle of hate stronger. I hope all that helps.

IMS: YOU the mussies should come out strongly to condemn what is going on and especially report to the local authorities of ANY imminent terrorist attack, since most of it is preached in the mosques anyway so it won't be THAT hard.

However, your failure to do so makes the suspicion among the rest of the world even more dire.

Look how the system works in so called isalmic states, a.k.a. Saudi, Iran, Pakistan etc. Totally no freedom at all.

UNLESS you start taking action against these so called radicals the cleft will grow deeper.

The cartoons were meaningless in the sense that if it hadn't been them, it would have been something else. The failure to gain meaningful integration within the population of Sweden and the EU guarantees further conflict. The cartoons had meaning in that the western core belief in personal freedoms of action and what constitutes an acceptable response to those we disagree with was denied by the violent reaction. We are happily destroying the foundations of our society for the benefit of a very small and unrepresentative few's need to live and force on everyone else their version of 8thc Islam . It is well past the time that we stopped beating our chests over their inability to get along. We should acknowledge the fundamental disagreement with this small portion of immigrants and others and require public compliance with the laws, culture and taboos of the land that they have voluntarily chosen to live in. Sweden and the EU needs to reacquire its spine.

Your comment about mosques just seem funny to me.

If you are so sure about "preaching" being bad in mosques why don't you yourself go to one of them and bring a proof recorded in some way and present before the authorities. There are several mosques in Stockholm at Madgborgarplasten, St: Eriksplan,at Sveavagen near Lidl, Hotorgat, Fittja, Marsta to name a few. The preaching time is usually between 12:00-12:30 each Friday. You can choose any one of them and choose any Friday without telling anyone and repeat the process for as many Fridays as you want to get the "proof" and see what "proof" you get out of preaching and do let the readers know here the evidence you come up with.

ah did i say it occurs during prayer time???? and going to a mosque is pretty low on my to-do list inlife. however i used to live in the middle east for over 12 years and know pretty well about the "scary stuff" that went on pre and post 9/11 in the mosques. shukran habibi - nietch

The problem in the future with Sweden and other countries with sizable Muslim communities is how conflicts like Palestine and allowing morereligious rights to Muslims who by virtue of their religion will want to create an increasingly more separate society because their ultimate aim is a theocracy and not a democracy.

A clash of civilisations is inevitable - Swedes have to decide if they stand or fall.

"Islam is a peaceful religion"

Hahahahaha. Yeah, right. Give me a break. Open a newspaper or the Koran and be proven wrong a thousand times.

There are a lot more than a few "bad apple" radicals. It's a violent ideology. The evidence, textual and event based, is very clear about that.

The time has come for Sweden to look to her defences. Evil people have picked a death cult over loyalty to Sweden, whatever their passports say and it is the duty of everybody who loves Sweden to defend her. Now is the time for Free men everwhere to look to our mutual defence. No nation can defend Freedom individually against madness, but if we look to our history, it is obvious that Free People allied together can not be defeated.

By the way the terrorists just took out the Moscow Airport, so I guess it is not only a US, Great Britain, Denmark, Sweden, Spain, Germany, Israel problem.
01:11 January 25, 2011 by jackx123
haha islam a peaceful religion - not. it is the ROOT of all evil as can be seen by the numerous events that have killed thousands of people, obviously the last one being moscow yesterday. we also had another tragic event that killed 35 people in march 2010 in a moscow subway.

The Mohammed Cartoons were about the pandering of European politicians to PC and Muslims.

If we treated Muslims the way they treat our country they would leave in droves.
