New arrests as high court reviews 'honour' killing

"There will be a remand hearing for them in the Supreme Court tomorrow, Tuesday," said prosecutor Kerstin Eriksson.

The Supreme Court has ruled to allow a retrial in the case of their son, who was 18-years-old at the time, and who remains the only person convicted in the murder of 20-year-old Abbas Rezai.

The man, who is now 23-years-old, was sentenced to four years youth detention followed by deportation to Afghanistan. He was released in November 2009 and has since then been fighting his deportation.

The court classified the murder as a so-called honour killing as Rezai was involved in a relationship with the convicted man's sister at the time of his brutal slaying in November 2005.

His parents were meanwhile acquitted despite both the district court and the appeal court ruling that their son could not have committed the crime alone.

In his application for a pardon from the Supreme Court, the 23-year-old has forwarded claims that it was in fact his parents who were behind the killing, arguing that he was merely present in the apartment at the time.

In support of his case he has cited the testimony made in police interviews by his younger brother, who was 15-years-old at the time. The teenager spent some time in state care due to concerns over reprisals from his family.

The man has furthermore supported his application with a new statement from the medical examiner and the police forensics team which carried out the examination of the apartment.

The 22-year-old's parents dispute their son's new version of the events and argued through their lawyer, Elisabeth Massi Fritz, that he has fabricated his story in order to avoid deportation to Afghanistan.

Story continues below…

"I think it is unreasonable to conclude that he is entirely innocent," Massi Fritz said.

20-year-old Abbas Rezai was found dead in an apartment in Högsby in southern Sweden in November 2005.

After a police examination it was concluded that Rezai was scalded with hot oil, hit with a variety of objects and repeatedly stabbed in the back and chest, with the majority of the wounds sustained after his death. He was also almost entirely scalped and one of his fingers had been partially chopped off.

Deport all involved.
16:17 May 9, 2011 by TheOneWhoTravels
I agree, send them all back to Afghanistan never to return to Sweden. Do it now don't pussyfoot around.
16:18 May 9, 2011 by Rishonim
Yep, send them all packing. We don't need those animals in this country. What kind of person would do that to their child-sister???
16:45 May 9, 2011 by jamesblish
"He was released in November 2009 and has since then been fighting his deportation." Deport them all, it's bad enough we had to pay for four years of therapy for this bastard.
17:03 May 9, 2011 by Swedesmith
Call it an "honor deportation".
17:18 May 9, 2011 by Playmaker
4 years what? that was a very brutal crime and a bet a painful death. 4yrs islam sucks
17:25 May 9, 2011 by LonelyLove
Am I reading this correctly?

He was convicted of torturing and murdering someone.

And he served a couple of years in jail?

Sweden is completely and utterly demented.
17:34 May 9, 2011 by William Sachsen-Coburg-Gotha
'Sentenced to four years' and 'brutal slaying' should never appear in the same context.
17:36 May 9, 2011 by muscle
He should be immediately deported!!!! If not that, then should be treated the same way as he treated his victim! Such people, should be eliminated as early as possible they ruin the image of religion by showing their so called "MANLY ATTITUDE"

Funny thing, these guys would bark so much about ISLAM and how they should react. And they ignore about peace! Because of such people why shouldn't the world dislike ISLAM.
18:29 May 9, 2011 by Infart
Agreed with everyone else here. Deport all involved. This is a no-brainer. Islam is whack.
18:30 May 9, 2011 by wenddiver
Could you guys hold up on the comments for awhile. the group that calls you racists and xenophobes ussually sleeps in, since they aren't required to work for a living.

It would be unfair toallow the Swedes, Americans and Britains to post while those who live off the government are still in bed. How can we possibly proceed without blaming the US and Sweden for this Islamic murder and calling everybody who objects to it the stadard racists and xenophobes?

In a couple of hours they will wake up, bathe change into some comfortable pajama like clothing, kill anybody that their religion deems necessary, make some tea, pray again and be ready to call all of you racists and xenophobes.

Wouldn't that be fairer and show more multi-cultural tolerance and respect. Think about it.

Maybe we should consider depporting all the old Swedes to Afganistan for racism and xenophobe as a punishment for honor killings, which are obviously caused by them as Islam is the religion of Peace.
19:01 May 9, 2011 by Swedesmith
You are so right wenddiver, how insensitive of me. I must be a racist and a xenophobe. Must I be deported?

They say it is nice in Afganistan this time of year.
20:35 May 9, 2011 by technoviking
But guys... these are the moderate Muslims.

They didn't kill the daughter too.

You need to be more culturally sensitive.
20:51 May 9, 2011 by Iraniboy
I trust the courts in Sweden. Hopefully they will be sentences accordingly.

Same old posters! It is really funny to see how American and British posters here find themselves eligible to decide upon Sweden! :D The fact is that the same Swedes who allowed you to come to their country are the same Swedes who allowed others to come!
21:07 May 9, 2011 by occassional
What are these people made of?
21:22 May 9, 2011 by Commoner
The poor chap would feel alone in aghanistan. Stackars liten :)

Pls deport the whole family along with him.
21:35 May 9, 2011 by truthworthy
Yep he should be deported and executed when he reaches Afghanistan - that is the punishment for murder.

@Playmaker what does Islam have to do with this? There is no such a thing as honor killing in Islam, it is only barbaric culture that is practiced in some countries (Muslim and non-Muslim) - I am amazed by the increasingly diminishing mindset of trolls like you.
21:54 May 9, 2011 by calebian22

You say it is not Islam, but it sure seems popular amongst muslims. You're again full of crap.
21:54 May 9, 2011 by Commoner
I fail to understand why it is only Muslims in this country who are connected to the honour killings?
22:08 May 9, 2011 by Iraniboy

What we see here is a sick and violent action from a sick person. If you see this more popular among Muslims, I also see more 'Own daughter rape' cases among non-Muslims in Europe. That doesn't really mean non-Muslims rape their daughters does it?
22:08 May 9, 2011 by MarkinBoston
Deport them to Egypt - they can kill Christians there for sport. It's what muslims do.
22:13 May 9, 2011 by GLO
Deport them to Hell
22:18 May 9, 2011 by truthworthy
@calebian22 - I know bigots won't be satisfied because their logic is to find ways to generalize and justify their phobia. So no worries.

I know your point, we are full of crap no matter what we say. What i fail to see is people like you in the real world. Where do you guys live, in caves with internet connection? because in Sweden, I fail to meet people who share your bigotry.
22:44 May 9, 2011 by technoviking
@ Iraniboy

You're right. Islam only condones sex with OTHER people's children.

Thanks for the clarification.
22:56 May 9, 2011 by Iraniboy

If it makes you to have better feeling to lie, do that! While your accusations are based on lies, my claim of 'daughter raping among non-Muslims' can be proved by many cases including Fritzel in Austria and more cases across the Europe. If you don't rape your daughter you're a good one.

See how it feels when someone use your own logic to prove things!
23:06 May 9, 2011 by technoviking
@ Iraniboy

Haha, who's lying? Not me.

23:10 May 9, 2011 by infidel2012
@ iranboy

"I also see more 'Own daughter rape' cases among non-Muslims in Europe. That doesn't really mean non-Muslims rape their daughters does it?"

you're absolutely right, the Arabs and Somali's do the their own raping as well : )

... and speaking of *iranboy, once again these *insurgents are proving what there so called 'religion of peace' is all about.

Know Islam... NO Peace : (

No Islam... KNOW Peace : )

(begin justified rant)

By the way, the pizza kiosks in Sweden suck big time. I make my own Pizza... AMERICAN 'We Kick Muslim Countries-Ass Style', this way their dirty little muhammad like dog-paws never touch my food.

Yes, you guessed it... I have contempt of ALL muslims. Now, go back to your dirty little caves in the desert where the all bugs dwell : )

(end of rant... for now)
23:17 May 9, 2011 by jamesblish
Honor killings need to be dealt with, before they happen. But it's just one out of many barbarical practices that exist here. We still allow mutilation of children (also referred to as circumcision) in Swedish hospitals. Fortunately, I believe you now have to pay for it our of your own pocket. But we still allow it. Mutilation of children without medical benefit, for solely religious reasons (even if they think it's just "tradition" it's still a religious practice one or two generations back). So there's a lot of crap we allow here, that we shouldn't.
23:27 May 9, 2011 by Infart
What is this about honor killings not being a part of Islam? I'm seriously confused I guess because I've seen multiple honor killings cases is several Muslims countries. Off the top of my head they have been in Iraq, Bangladesh, Indonesia, Iran, Saudi Arabia (of course), Yemen and even the Muslim world's crown jewel, Turkey. If I bothered to look it up, I'm sure I could find it going on in every country. So how is it not apart of Islam?
00:04 May 10, 2011 by wenddiver
@Swedesmith- #12- Dear gentle Islamic reader,

Yes, you must be deported, racism and xenophobia are the most seriouse crimes under Islam, that and Pork.

You should replace your racism and xenaphobia with terrorism, murder, slavery, wife beating, being paedophile, dealing drugs and lieing all of which are pleasing to Allah , so stop being a deginerate and get with the program.

Matbe you can make ammends by cutting a woman's nose and ears off, or other act pleasing to Allah!

Sweden needs to embrace the richness of diversity that multicultural society offers, in particular from the modern Muslim.

Sweden needs to be sensitive the Muslim community.
00:18 May 10, 2011 by ajs42548
While there may be crimes against children and women in the west, the people who commit those crimes are prosecuted and sent to jail. They dishonor their families. In Islamic countries the people who commit honor killings are either not prosecuted or if they are, just given a slap on the wrist. That's the difference.

this article reminded me why i havent read swedish news in months... it just pisses me off, how gullible swedes can be. how can people tolerate this? how can people thing this is normal?
05:36 May 10, 2011 by Grokh
He kills someone and gets 4 years in jail?

whats to review? if u kill someone u should rot in jail for the rest of your life, it doesnt matter if it was an honor killing it was a killing and the guy shouldnt pay with just 4 years for another persons life.

Great news that they deported him, they should do that to all foreigners who commits crimes specially as brutal as this one.

4 years is pathetic HE KILLED SOMEONE. even worse HE DID IT FOR HONOR KILLING. Either rot in jail or gtfo.
05:46 May 10, 2011 by jbat
a TOTAL LIE from "ajs42548"

give me 1 muslim country that do not punish people for killing other people..

The term "honor killings" never exists in muslim country you stupidd dammmn liar!
05:57 May 10, 2011 by calebian22
Trustworthy/Iraniboy and any other apologist,

Please explain why honor killings are so popular amongst Muslims? Deflecting by calling me a bigot, an islamophobe, or asking irrelevant questions about rape in other demographics, isn't a defense. So it is only a coincidence that Muslims are the ones killing family out of a medieval sense of honor?

How about this as alternative? Islam and all associated cultures are not welcome in the West. Honor killings in the West will disappear. Problem solved.

@roger o thornhill:- Which planet did you just arrive from, or were you attached to the Bin Laden school of misinformation?
11:55 May 10, 2011 by technoviking
@ iraniboy mysteriously disappears in the face of facts...

Try your taqiyya and lies somewhere else.
14:04 May 10, 2011 by Syftfel
The fact that we're even having this discussion is offensive. As a self-avowed, fierce, enemy of islam in Europe, I am grossed out by by the likes of iraniboy and the verminous truthworthy. Those dogs, and a few others, have ulterior motives with their toxic commentary, which hopefully we can all see through. The blame for this sorry state of Swedish affairs must be placed squarely at the treasonous party of Palme and his SSU henchmen. It is only a matter of time now before freedom of expression in Sweden is a foggy memory.
15:51 May 10, 2011 by Roy E
What abject cowards, killing girls and thinking they are justified in doing so .

Isn't multiculturalism grand?

Diversity - you asked for it, you got it! Idiots.
18:21 May 10, 2011 by Iraniboy

I don't even dare to enter in the website your suggested as references, I don't have anti-virus.

As long as we fail to understand that a murderer or a brutal criminal (like in this case) is not representative of the his race, nation or any other group affiliation, there would be stupid people who can come up with the claim that Muslims kill rape or non-Muslims rape their daughters, etc by sticking to these examples!
19:27 May 10, 2011 by technoviking
@ iraniboy

Of course you won't address the facts.

Because like all Muslims, when confronted with infidels who actually read what your nasty ideology preaches you resort to lies and misinformation.

Fortunately for us, it's all there in black in white to read. Like the many instances in the Hadith, koran and fatwas where pedophilia is condoned by Islam.

This is a fact and there's no amount of lying you can do to change it.
